DASH FOR DONATIONS: FUNDRAISING TIPS 1. Sometimes getting that first donation is the hardest. Inspire yourself and others by making the first contribution! 2. Sharing your story and enthusiasm for Team Phoenix is a great way to get people involved. Incorporate some of the messages from the About Us page. 3. Set an attainable goal and communicate this with your donors so they know where you stand in your efforts. 4. Customize and maintain your web page. Participants who personalize their page with their story and photos tend to raise more money than those who don’t. 5. Send an e-mail to your entire address book with the line: “A donation of just $10 will help me achieve my fundraising goal.” Asking for a specific amount may motivate people to donate. 6. Promote your page through social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Get the word out! 7. Send light hearted reminder emails asking people to donate. 8. Email people in groups like your family, friends, coworkers, etc. and tailor your message to each group. Utilize your Facebook friends list. 9. Keep your page up to date so potential donors can send it to their friends. 10. Explain to your friends and family how the money donated will be used. 11. List your fundraising page’s address in your email signature. 12. Don’t forget to thank people! Send a heartfelt thank you in an email, a twitter, a Facebook post – make your donors feel great about supporting your cause. REACH YOUR FUNDRAISING FINISH LINE FASTER WITH MATCHING GIFTS! Through matching gifts you have the potential to double or even triple a donation. A matching gift is a donation that is given by an employer to “match” a donation made by one its employees. If your employer matches gifts please send us a contribution form from your employer, just provide them with the Phoenix Society’s Tax ID (23- 20625352).
ASKING FOR SUPPORT When asking for donations always emphasize how important it is to raise money for burn survivors. Let your recipients know that you aren’t just asking for a donation, but explain why you are participating with Team Phoenix. Are you a burn survivor? Is someone close to you a burn survivor? Your personal story will be one of the most influential reasons why potential donors choose to support you. Be sure to share how their donation will be used. All funds received will be used to advance recovery resources, provide environments to renew the spirit, and support a positive return to life. The Phoenix Society knows that burn injury not only affects the patient, but also the people who love and support them. We also know that the recovery process is ongoing after release from the hospital. For these reasons, the Phoenix Society provides a national support network and resources for survivors, spouses, children, siblings, healthcare professionals, first responders and all who are involved in the recovery process.
