NEWS PROJECTION LIGHTS & STAGING NEWS Staging the Launch for Android-Powered Handsets NEW YORK — As with iPhone, the word, “phone,” can’t quite stretch far enough to fit everything the T-Mobile G1 can do. So its creators are using “handset” as an alternative, and touting the open-source nature of its Android operating system, created by HTC, Google and the Open Handset Alliance, even if the G1 is now available only on the proprietary T-Mobile network. But as the first peek at the second major technology platform for delivering the Internet and more to people on the go, the G1’s launch was the source of intense media interest, and The Production Network (TPN) had just three weeks to do everything it could to make the press conference a success. Mobile Stage Facility Built to LEED Standards continued from cover The 20 percent “green” premium in construction costs is expected to be offset by subsidies and lower energy bills. The venue chosen for the T-Mobile G1 press conference was Guastavino’s, a catering site noted for its unique interior arches and columns. TPN delivered a combination of an interior lighting design and digital visuals with opportunities to learn about and get hands-on experience using the QWERTYkeyboard-equipped handsets. Along with the main press conference, delivered by T-Mobile’s Cole Brodman, Christopher Schlaffer of Deutsche Telekom, Andrew Rubin of Google and HTC’s Peter Chou, the event included a product fair, a press room and five additional rooms for private press interviews. eral tons of greenhouse gases, the building itself does not, and the 39,503-square-foot facility stands as one of the first industrial buildings in North America to reach that objective. The building also consumes 69.2 percent less energy than a similar structure compliant to the codes and standards in effect. While nearly 20 percent of the building’s $6.5 million construction costs can be attributed to a premium continued from cover without the need for running data cables. City Theatrical’s wireless DMX is similar in concept to a home or business WiFi system, but uses a radio transport method for greater reliability. City Theatrical’s President, Gary Fails said, “This patent is the result of over seven years of product development effort by Larry Dunn and Paul Kleissler, beginning when To highlight the press conference speakers and add visual interest to the surroundings, TPN used lighting gear supplied by BML-Blackbird, including 25 ETC Source Four Ellipsoidals, 75 Source Four PARs, six Martin MAC 550s, eight Martin MAC 2000 Performances, 50 Color Kinetic Color Blast 12s and three High End Systems DL.2s, with two MA Lighting grandMA consoles available for control. The backdrop for the news conferences was a 13-foot-by-21-foot rear projection screen in a semi-circular shape, with additional visuals displayed on two 103-inch plasma monitors. There were 12 additional 32-inch plasma monitors used for the event and three spent for “green construction” LEED certification criteria, a portion of those expenses were paid by Hydro- Quebec’s financial incentive program for energy-efficient buildings. Stageline said that its remaining costs will be offset by lower ongoing energy costs. “We did not hesitate to invest in innovative concepts that have made our building a unique laboratory,” said Stageline Group president and they were both independent engineers consulting with CTI, and leading to them joining the company, Larry in 2003 and Paul in 2007. We have put thousands of hours of effort into our wireless DMX products like our multi award-winning SHoW DMX, and this U.S. Patent recognizes our contribution to this leading edge technology.” Sony HDC1500/HDC1000 cameras for video capture. City Theatrical Gets U.S. Patent for Wireless Gear The company also recently announced eight partnering companies, each of whom have agreed to use SHoW DMX technology inside their products. They include Applied Technology, Easily LED, Electronics Diversified Inc. (EDI), Johnson Systems, Lex Products, LynTec, LSC and Zero 88.
