Item 8 FFT scores are calculated on a monthly basis using the following equation: Proportion of respondents who would be extremely likely to recommend (response category: “extremely likely”) MINUS Proportion of respondents who would not recommend (response categories: “neither likely nor unlikely”, “unlikely” & “extremely unlikely”) Figures detailing FFT rates for all acute Trusts will be published by the Department of Health at the end of July, thereby providing a benchmark to measure progress against. 6. Patient Opinion Over the past 12 months 108 comments have been posted, all of which have been responded to. The top three areas for concern relate to attitude of staffing, communication, and lack of information provided regarding care. In the past three months there has been a notable increase in the number of compliments posted in the website, 58 of the postings have been positive feedback. An example of a recent compliment from a gentleman who was admitted as an emergency is shown below. As arthritic sufferer, aged 73, I am most grateful for the reception, check, interest and respect taken throughout by all the staff. Given the recent virulent criticisms of the NHS, I can only say a massive "Thank You" to Derriford Hospital. Head of A&E can be proud of their team, and I Ieft feeling comforted and re-assured. 7. Ward Audits The Trust programme for audting all wards using the Meridian tool began in December 2011. This report will now focus on the following Nursing Quality Indicators, the charts below showing performance in the last year. The next quarter will see considerable changes to questions as a result of triangulation. 17

Pressure Ulcers The essence of care audit assesses the following: • Compliance with Waterlow assessment • Compliance with up-to-date EPUAP assessment Analysis/Action – this assures us that assessments are being undertaken. However, there are two themes from our RCA’s; inaccurate assessment and inaction/wrong action following assessment. The Safe Care Group will consider a paper in July proposing a revised approach to measurement (outcome focussed) and a re-launch of intentional rounding. 18
