Ideal for framing. AUSTRALIA - TASMANIA: Bank of Van Diemen's Land, three cheques all-different printings including two drawn in Spanish dollars and one in pounds, minor faults, rare. [Between 1822 & 1826 Van Diemen's Land used both pounds sterling and Spanish dollars because of the then shortage of British currency in the Colony. A similar lot realised $950 in our sale on 2/10/10]{Page 22.4} (3) AUSTRALIA - VICTORIA: 1855 London Chartered Bank of Australia (Melbourne) large bound chequebook (260x375mm) with about 100 pages of cheques (four per page), the earlier forms removed & with various interesting entries on the remaining stubs including regarding purchase of hay and provisions along the Bendigo Road to the goldfields, endorsed "Cobb & Co" on the face. Damp-spotting affects the stubs and the first few remaining pages of cheques but the majority of the forms are remarkably fine. 92 C B - 1859 Melbourne & Suburban Railway Company share certificate with illustration of a train crossing the Yarra River & a map of the proposed route to Cremorne (Richmond), Windsor & Prahran, 'Sands & Kenny Stationers' imprint at the base, impressive embossed seal that also features the train, minor blemishes. [The company commenced operations in 1859 & was taken over by another company in 1865] 93 94 O - Miner's Rights 1860s £1 (2) & 1892 5/- headed 'COLONY OF VICTORIA', 1908 2/6d, and 1934 2/6d, usual condition factors owing to the fact that these documents had to be carried at all times. Also includes 1951 vehicle registration.
