Consignment balance with a bundle of 1930s-1960s advertising covers including a few better ones, 1/2d Thylacine
on five philatelic PPCs to UK, etc, also 1918 Australian Railway Operating Co illustrated Christmas card & a page of
South Australian squared-circles.
? Postmaster General's Department circular ink-pad & holder (the pad itself badly deteriorated), an unopened pack of
"Walkden's Fine British Ink Powder", and a brass 'TOO LATE' handstamp with wooden handle.

Bundle of covers with Kangaroo Penny Reds including varieties (noted "Two Tasmanias"), advertising imprints, 'OS'
& 'OS/NSW' perfins, 1914 underpaid to Italy & taxed, returned group with various 'UNCLAIMED AT/...' markings,
etc, condition rather mixed. Inspection recommended.{Page 36.7} (73)
1916 OHMS cover to Naracoorte with 4d Roo perf Large 'OS' (corner fault) tied by Adelaide cds & red/white
registration label, 'UNCLAIMED' h/s & returned to the DLO (b/s); with the 'RETURNED PAID LETTER' "ambulance"
cover unusually registered with 'R'-in-oval in red & 'DEAD LETTER OFFICE/[crown]/ADELAIDE' impressed in red
wax on the flap, both with a vertical fold and opened-out for display . (2 items)
1913-14 batch of 1d rate covers each with Kangaroo 1d red including very early usages of 4JA-1913 & 9JA-13 both
in Sydney, Northern Territory PPC used at Thursday Island, very late usage in 1921 with normal & coil stamps, etc,
condition variable. (11)
1913-15 Western Australian 'AVIS DE RECEPTION' forms with Kangaroo frankings 1) with 2½d, to "Wanarra
Station via Three Springs" with 'THREE SPINGS MR' arrival cds; 2) with ½d & 1d pair; & 3) with 2d + KGV ½d
green, 'PINGELLY' arrival cds; a few faults; 2) & 3) with the registration receipts attached. (3)
242 C B - ditto, with rare combination franking of ½d Kangaroo & 2d Swan tied by Perth d/s, 'BARTON/WESTN AUST'
arrival cds, a few pinholes & a minor repair at left. Rare and desirable. Barton PO from Buchanan 1/4/1905; to
Piesseville -/12/1918. [Stated that only one other such WA/Kangaroo combination franking on an AR form has been

1914 (Sep 18) cover to the USA with Kangaroo 1d red Coil Strip of 3 (with the characteristic trimmed perfs at right)
tied by 'QUEENSCLIFF' cds, red/white 'OPENED BY/CENSOR' label, toning/staining. A very rare usage. [The
sender presumably had a supply of coil stamps with him & used a strip of 3 rather than source a ½d to make up the
correct 2½d rate. With the enclosed PPC "Ballarat YMCA Field Service Equipment Queenscliff 1914", faults on the

244 C B - cover to London with Roos 4d orange (creased) tied by 'NEWSTEAD/VIC' cds, scarce red/white registration label,
minor faults but very attractive.

1915 commercial cover to Chile with Kangaroos Second Watermark 2½d vertical pair (the upper unit defective)
paying foreign letter rate + 2½d late fee tied by 'LATE FEE/15JL15/SPENCER ST VIC' cds & 'PASSED BY/
MILITARY CENSOR/NZ' h/s in violet, poor Montevideo transit & Santiago arrival b/s, some creasing. [The route
was apparently via New Zealand, Panama & Uruguay]

The stamps have been lifted to confirm the watermark & replaced. The ACSC states that the Second Wmk 2½d
was issued in July 1915. Research has revealed that the printing was on 5-6th July & the stamps were placed into
stock on the 10th. Believed to be the earliest recorded usage & may well be a First Day Cover.{Page 36.9}

1920 (April 9) cover to Ballarat with KGV 1½d brown tied by '... POINT/VIC' cds in violet, resealed with stamp
selvedge from a sheet of KGV Large Multiple Wmk 1d reds which is tied by a largely very fine strike front of the very
rare 'Opened by/Burglars/P.O. Ballarat' handstamp, another better strike on the reverse. A wonderful cover. [Kevin
Nelson's similar but defective cover - believed to be the only other recorded example - sold for $5750 at our auction
of 27/11/2011]{Page 39.1}
