Album of OAS mail with 15 convoy covers with a good range of censor cachets, the balance mainly from Egypt with<br />

various datestamps & cachets & a few better items noted, very mixed condition.{Page 40.2} (100+)<br />

Military Camps covers from Bathurst x3 (one with 'BATHURST MILTY CAMP/=NSW=' cds), 'ENOGGERA<br />

CAMP/QUEENSLAND' (a beautiful illustrated YMCA cover with the stamp tragically ripped off) & 'MILITARY CAMP<br />

MITCHAM/STH AUST' on foldout letterette, and two covers from the USA each with 'MENANGLE MILITARY<br />

CAMP/=NSW=' cds on the face & redirected overseas, some faults.{Page 40.7} (7)<br />

Annotated covers from Lemnos (2) & Gallipoli with various cds & several with more specific locations noted included<br />

Anzac Cove, Lone Pine & Cape Hellas, one to Malta, condition rather mixed. (31)<br />

1918 OAS cover with 'AUSTRALIAN/YMCA' imprint unusually in black, to GB with British 'ARMY POST OFFICE/<br />

25MR18/SZ 23' "skeleton" cds in use at Beersheba (Palestine) & boxed 'DAMAGED BY IMMERSION/IN SEA<br />

WATER' h/s applied at London, a bit soiled. [See Hoggarth & Gwynn at pages 192-5.]<br />

The cover was carried per SS "Kingstonian" which, on 11/4/1918, was torpedoed by German submarine U68. The<br />

ship was badly damaged. It was towed to Carloforte (Sardinia) where the mail - which had suffered water damage -<br />

was removed. At the end of April, she was again torpedoed by U48 & became a total loss. {Page 40.4}<br />

Australian Wireless Signal Squadron was stationed in Mesopotamia from late-1916. "D" Troop returned to Australia<br />

we have seen of a superscription by Lieut Hinton: unrecorded by Emery]{Page 42.1}<br />

by the remarkable quality of the costumes, also the programme for 1918 (March) production of "Rosenmontag"<br />

including a photo of the cast & crew; plus a badly damaged photo of two officers & 18 soldiers - a dissolute crew -<br />

three with 'HM TRANSPORT' cds & Nov 1940 from Bombay ex the "Aquitania", very mixed condition. (28)<br />

1940-42 series of airmail covers from the War Correspondent Guy Edward Warre Harriott to his fiancée, mostly<br />

from Palestine - including two parcel pieces - & Egypt - including a parcel piece - but two with British stamps &<br />

'FIELD POST OFFICE/193' cds used in Athens, others from Burma & Iraq on his return to the Middle East after<br />

getting married, some self-censored signed "GWHarriott", condition rather mixed. [Guy Harriott was one of the first<br />

Australian war correspondents to arrive in North Africa.] (25 items)<br />

'AIF FIELD PO' DATESTAMPS: Album from 'No 7' to '54' mostly from New Guinea, Papua or Dutch Indies<br />

including 19 registered, noted three 1d brown Australian Defence Canteens Envelopes, one with benign<br />

endorsement "No Stamps Available/Please Tax"!, one illustrated. (83)<br />

'FIELD POST OFFICE' DATESTAMPS: Album from '019' to '045' used within Australia & Papua & '038' used in<br />

Sarawak (endorsed on the reverse "Posted 1.10.45/Labuan"), many registered & nine with Papuan stamps (three of<br />

which have Australia/Papua combination frankings). A very good lot.{Page 42.3} (150 approx)<br />

'FIELD PO' DATESTAMPS: Album from '046' to '072' mostly used within Australia plus some Papua, noticed large<br />

parcel piece from '047' at 12/3½d rate, many registered including some with enormous registration cachets, many<br />
