(Western Area Youth Empowerment Programs and Activities)
Star of the West #62 has been a great supporter of Boy Scouts Troop and Pack # 281
in Manchester. From Oct. 2012 until Dec.2012 a total of 8 Scouts have been working on
their swimming merit badge at the North side YMCA on North Ave. During Nov. and
Dec. 2012 the scouts made their own Christmas ornaments out of clay. Currently, the
Boy Scouts are working on the Citizenship of the Nation merit badge and working on
making their wooden neckerchief slide and their Pine Wood Derby cars for the District
Race at Ross Park Mall in Feb. 2013.
Bro Alan Perry spoke to the Grand Master, Murphy J. Keller III, on the phone and he
said that he wants to have a Scout Troop sponsored by 1117 Wood St. I got all the
papers that are needed to make that happen.
GOLDEN STAR LODGE # 143 YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM
Agenda for Mentoring Session
Golden Star has adopted The Mel Blount Youth Home, and has developed the outline for the
mentoring program which we feel will help in the continuing of youth development;
mentally, physically and morally while teaching them to become productive citizens in
society.
Overview:
What to expect from the Mentoring Program
1. Defining the mentor’s role- the goal is to help the mentees with life in
and out of the Mel Blount Youth Home, but the members of Golden
Star Lodge #143 role will be to share experiences, suggestions, and
provide support to assist mentees and help them to continue to gain
empowerment over their future.
St. Cyprian-Alpha #13
The youth programs are as follows:
Adopt Boy Scout Troop 760, Bethesda United Presbyterian Church
Will involve the Scouts in a Black History Program at the Temple Saturday 2/16/13, Noon til 3:00pm
Initiate a career day
Develop a partnership to involve Scouts in culinary arts training (details to follow).
Adopt Imani Christian Academy, 2150 East Hills Drive, Pgh 15221
Support students with scholarship support
Introduce Brothers of St Cyprian to the Imani Students
Involve Imani Students in the Black History program
Involve students in the culinary arts training program
Involve students in various career exposure and opportunity
Partner with Urban Youth Action programs (details to follow)
Boaz # 65: February Boaz will be taking 7-10 boys to a Pitt basketball game. They will
be from the Wilkinsburg High School.
The Lodge is also partnering with a Boys Scout troop in Wilkinsburg with Major John
Thompson.

Golden Gate #33: The Poindexter Scholarship fundraiser is in effect which gives a
qualified youth money for college.
The Harambee Radio show is a show that address and deals with youth issues. This
show airs the second Tuesday of every month at 10pm EST. The site is
www.harambeeradio.com.
In addition, this lodge will be working with the East End Youth Advisory Council in the
many community efforts that occur on a monthly basis.
Further, this lodge also collaborates with other Masonic groups in community efforts
that involve the youth.
Jericho #20: Give 2 scholarships in November at their 100th Anniversary.
WM McGee has a leadership program in the schools that the Brothers help out with.
Pride of the West # 84 : This lodge has on going working relationship with the KOP.
The following lodges are currently deciding about the proper youth program that will
best fit their respective lodges. I will lend my experience to the respective lodges to help
them make the best choice that will impact our community in a positive way. #36, #60,
#69, #79, #101 and #117.
