Options A variety of searching
capabilities allows researchers to find
information quickly and easily. Canadian
Poetry is searchable by:
• Keyword in the title or text
• First line of title keyword
• Poet
• Period
• Gender
• Dates of birth and death
Cross-searching the database allows
researchers to study and compare
different writings and time periods in
Canadian poetry history. For example, a
searcher can trace the changing
preoccupation with the Canadian
landscape over the centuries, or the move
away from British literary models to the
development of recognizably Canadian
poetic forms and styles.
Users can also browse the complete list of
texts arranged alphabetically by author
and volume, and then select any author or
volume for display. In addition, researchers
can browse lists of all authors, titles, and
first lines in the collection, as well as a
complete index of all the words in the
texts, titles, and first lines. Truncation
searching can be used to retrieve
documents containing variants on a term.
Searches can also be customized using
Boolean and proximity operators.
