EDUCATION<br />

Kristina Ellis, <strong>Director</strong> of Education Programs<br />

Kristina Ellis oversees all educational programming and operations for the Land<br />

Conservancy. She is also working to develop new programs that will provide<br />

engaging educational experiences for surrounding schools and communities at our<br />

different preserves and nature centers. Kristina believes the goal of environmental<br />

education is to create opportunities that provide people with a sense of inspiration<br />

and wonder for our natural world.<br />

Background and qualifications:<br />

B.A. in Anthropology with a focus on Native American Studies; California State University Long<br />

Beach<br />

Spent the last 5 1/2 years working in the education department at the Natural History Museum of<br />

Los Angeles County.<br />

Developed and taught standards based science and natural history curriculum to school children<br />

ranging from pre-k through 8th grade, as well as developing tours for adults and special groups.<br />

Coordinated, evaluated and taught the museum’s innovative mobile education programs for all<br />

elementary and middle schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District.<br />

Developed and led numerous professional development workshops for museum staff as well as<br />

credentialed science teachers and interpreters at various education conferences and symposiums<br />

throughout the state.<br />

Kristina joined the Land Conservancy staff in April, 2007<br />

John Nieto, Education Program Manager<br />

John Nieto manages the Third Grade Education Program for the Land<br />

Conservancy and oversees 15 classroom docents. John has been a PVPLC<br />

volunteer for 13 years and has managed the Third Grade Education Program<br />

for the past 10 years.<br />

States Fish And Wildlife Service at the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge<br />

14 Year Member of the American Cetacean Society's Gray Whale Census And Behavioral Study<br />
