Preservation of
Open Spaces--
A Statement of
Purpose
The Palos Verdes Peninsula
Land Conservancy
is a nonprofit, non-political,
public-benefit corporation
formed to preserve
undeveloped land in perpetuity
as open space for
historical, educational,
ecological, recreational
and scenic purposes.
A diverse group of volunteers
from the South Bay
makes up the PVPLC's
managing Board of Directors
and its adjunct advisory
board. These private
citizens have been drawn
together by their belief that
open space is crucial to
the well-being of our community.
Land acquisition by the
PVPLC is through purchase
and gift. In addition
to the good will engendered
by gift giving, landowners
and others who donate
land or funds to the
PVPLC may realize significant
tax benefits.
of California,
Berkeley, in Geography
and is a recent
graduate of the Vermont
Law School with
relevant course work
in land use, nonprofits,
income taxation, and
environmental law.
She worked for four
Longtime Board Members Servis and Randall Depart
Board Member and Vice President
Ken Servis of Rolling Hills Estates
and Eric Randall of Rancho Palos Verdes
have departed our Board.
Ken joined the Board in 1996 and
became vice president in 1997. He was
one of the principal negotiators in discussions
which led to acquisition of the
Forrestal property by Rancho Palos
Verdes in 1996. Before joining our
Board, Ken worked with the Conservancy
as Mayor of Rolling Hills Estates
and was instrumental in the 1993 acquisition
of what is now the Linden H.
Chandler Preserve. We will miss Ken’s
good judgment and enthusiasm.
Eric joined the Board in 1997 and
played a key role in the evolution of the
She was captain of the
women’s basketball team
at the Vermont Law
School.
Noelle’s family has
some background on the
Peninsula—her Mother
was raised in Rolling Hills
and attended Palos Verdes
High School.
“I’m very pleased to be
joining the Conservancy,”
she says. “I strongly support
the land preservation
work of nonprofits like the
Conservancy. I’m looking forward to
working at the ground level to preserve
some great open space.”
SOC II Proposes Preservation of City Hall Site
Save Our Coastline II has proposed to
the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council
that natural areas around the 77-acre
Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall site be
maintained and enhanced for passive recreational
purposes. The plan includes
trails, restoration of native habitat, and
exhibits profiling the Native American
and military history of the site.
The City Council directed that the proposed
use of the site be included among
the options discussed in the Environmental
Impact Report (EIR) for the Long
Point site. The owners of Long Point
Conservancy’s management plan for the
Forrestal property in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Eric also served as a Conservancy representative
to the Rancho Palos Verdes Recreation
and Parks Subcommittee working
to draft a management plan for the property.
We sincerely appreciate Eric’s assistance
with the Forrestal property, his service
as a walk leader for our Nature Walk
program, his leadership with the Silver
Spur Canyon acquisition effort, and his
assistance in numerous other activities.
Noel Park and Douglass Stewart also
departed our Board late last year. While
both served only a short time, we appreciate
the perspective that these two businessmen
brought to us and wish them well.
have proposed to use a portion of the City
Hall site for golf holes and a driving range.
Information on the SOC II proposal can
be found at their web site,
www.palosverdes.com/socii or by calling
Dena Friedson at (310) 378-2835. Printed
versions of the Long Point EIR are available
at Peninsula libraries and the Conservancy’s
office. The EIR is also available at the
Rancho Palos Verdes web site,
www.palosverdes.com/rpv.
The City is soliciting comments on the
EIR from the public and public hearing on
the document will be held later this year.
