Strong support of the Museum has been maintained by the Friends which now boasts a membership of 968, involving 1899 individuals. The Friends contributed to the purchase of two major items for the Museum collections this year: • A large album of watercolour sketches and drawings by Emma von Stieglitz (1807-1880) This was a joint purchase by the Friends and the Launceston Art Foundation. The album will enhance the Museum’s important collection of work by early colonial women artists and is to be displayed in the Art Gallery at Inveresk where the pages will be turned every three months. • The Friends also purchased two 19th century surveyors instruments issued by the Board of Ordnance in Tasmania in the mid 1800s.
