The early years of Australia’s currency were tumultuous at best, from the problematic rum trade<br />
and the creation of the Holey Dollar and Dump; to the discovery of gold and the production of<br />
gold sovereigns. It wasn’t until after Federation that Australia’s first official government printed<br />
banknotes were created. It was <strong>May</strong> 1913, when production of the first 10 shilling notes began,<br />
followed by followed by the £1, £5, £10, and £20, £50, £100 notes in 1914.
