ABOUT <strong>RLE</strong>:<br />

The <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> (<strong>RLE</strong>) at the Massachusetts<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> Technology (<strong>MIT</strong>) was the Institute’s first major interdepartmental<br />

research center, and today is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>MIT</strong>’s largest. Founded in<br />

1946 as the successor to the famed RadLab <strong>of</strong> World War II, <strong>RLE</strong> now<br />

pursues a broad interpretation <strong>of</strong> forefront electronics research across<br />

a diverse spectrum <strong>of</strong> intellectual interests. <strong>Research</strong> in <strong>RLE</strong> is both basic<br />

and applied. <strong>MIT</strong> faculty in <strong>RLE</strong>, drawn principally from the Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Physics, direct research activities totalling $30M annually.These diverse<br />

research projects provide a rich learning environment for over three<br />

hundred <strong>MIT</strong> undergraduate and graduate students.<br />
