2007 WANADA OPEN SPECIAL EDITION
Great Day for the Skilled, Lucky & Fun Loving
This Year’s Open was Weather Blessed
B
etween a drenching,
overnight rain and a
late afternoon cloudburst,
the golf gods
smiled on the 2007
WANADA Open, which
was played for the most part under sunny skies
and cool breezes. And thanks to the quality and
care of Lansdowne Resort’s superb championship
courses, the somewhat soggy conditions were not
reflected in the near-record golf scores. With a
Shotgun Start and Captain's Choice scoring, the
winning teams carded 16 under par on both the
Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones courses
(see page 2).
And talk about Mr. Lucky, Nick Champeau of
Easterns Automotive Group was not only in the
winning foursome on the Jones course, he was an
$810 winner of the “50/50” cash drawing and a
32” Westinghouse flat screen HDTV! Half of the
funds raised by the “50/50” cash drawing went to
WANADA’s newly formed Automobile Dealer
Education Institute (ADEI).
At the awards dinner that evening, longtime
Washington newscaster Paul Berry, who served
as MC, remarked that Nick Champeau was
“lucky, skilled and sometimes both,” as he kept
the dinner crowd of over 300 chuckling throughout
the evening.
Lansdowne’s impressive new Golf Club facility
proved to be well suited as the “19th hole,”
where elaborate cocktails and provocative ice
sculptures set the stage for a lively awards dinner.
Once again, nobody claimed the $10,000 Hole
In One prize, which was expanded into four categories
this year. But increased sponsorship oppor-
Golfers queued up
under sunny skies,
and Nick Champeau
of Easterns (left),
shows off his $810
cash prize with Special
Events Chairman
Tony Santy of
Chesapeake Petroleum
and MC Paul
Berry. Champeau
also won a TV and
was on the winning
golf team!
tunities for this year’s Open meant more and
grander contest prizes ranging from iPods, digital
cameras and a LoJack security system to big
screen TVs, Washington Golf gift certificates and
Lansdowne Resort Golf Packages. And every
golfer in this year’s Open tournament received a
AMF hybrid golf club complete with the
WANADA Open logo.
The upshot was that everyone who came out
seemed to enjoy the occasion, and that’s winning
by any definition!
Picture Perfect
Heavy overnight rain couldn’t put a damper on
Lansdowne’s professionally designed courses.
As you can see here, WANADA Open players
enjoyed a fine day of good weather and challenging
competition, with near record scores.
Congratulations golfers!
