Food Additives and Chemicals Operations
To ensure tastier and safer food products through the use <strong>of</strong> natural materials,
<strong>Eisai</strong> has for many years conducted extensive R&D to develop food additives
based on vitamin E. Mainstay products in this category include vitamin E-enriched
supplements and antioxidants, as well as food preservatives, sweeteners and
flavor enhancers, which we supply to manufacturers <strong>of</strong> food products. Our
chemicals <strong>operations</strong> center on natural and synthetic vitamin E, and also include
pharmaceutical raw materials, such as lysozyme hydrochloride.
To ensure a stable supply <strong>of</strong> these products and improve our responsiveness
to the needs <strong>of</strong> customers worldwide, we commenced <strong>operations</strong> in 1998 at
a new synthetic vitamin E plant in the U.S.
Veterinary and Livestock Product Operations
Our <strong>operations</strong> in this category are guided by the concept that the health <strong>of</strong>
humans and animals are closely intertwined. In addition to developing an extensive
selection <strong>of</strong> products in the areas <strong>of</strong> nutrition, preventative hygiene and disease
treatment, we have <strong>focus</strong>ed on responding to market needs by developing highly
competitive products and strengthening our marketing capabilities.
We also market a broad range <strong>of</strong> vitamin E-based nutritional supplements
and livestock feeds, as well as swine vaccines and other immunological products,
disinfectants for environmental sterilization, antibiotic and antibacterial agents for
treating bacterial diseases, and veterinary drugs for pets. <strong>The</strong>se products are
available in Japan, many other Asian countries and Oceania.
Pharmaceutical Production Systems and Equipment
Operations in this category endeavor to provide pharmaceutical manufacturers
worldwide with pharmaceutical production systems and equipment that ensure
quality by <strong>focus</strong>ing on instruments used to detect impurities in ampules. We have
sold globally more than 700 units <strong>of</strong> our Automatic Inspection Machine (AIM), a
high-precision instrument that enables highly sophisticated detection <strong>of</strong> impurities in
ampules. Other achievements include the High Frequency Wave Sterilization System
(MWS), a continuous sterilization system, and the <strong>Eisai</strong> Inspection System (EIS), a
comprehensive testing system. In 1998, we launched a technologically advanced,
fully automated testing system named NAIM.
