Literacy Specialist
Ann Hofner has been teaching in Clark
County for 13 years. Currently, she is teaching
Computer Literacy 6 at Bob Miller Middle School
in Green Valley. Use of desktop computers
is a major part of her required curriculum but
incorporating the use of handheld technology is
a way of keeping the students interested. Power
Point is now used as Step One in the creation of
projects. Students save Power Point projects as
JPEGS to import into Photo Story 3 or Windows
Movie Maker. This allows incorporation of
small portions of video from KLVX, music, and
recordings of their own voices. The final product
is then converted into a Podcast.

Technology ASP Program has been great! Not
only have I accomplished MA +36, but I have
acquired great skills to use with my students.
Meet Jon Jones, Lowman Elementary
School Literacy Specialist. Mr. Jones has been
with Clark County for 11 years, and is starting
his second year as literacy specialist. He
recently completed his MS Ed. in Elementary
Science and is working on his Ed. D. in Teacher
Leadership. In addition to working with students,
staff development is a large part of his assigned
duties.
With limited time for staff development,
Mr. Jones implemented an innovative method
for follow up. Quick Tips are brief, fact-packed,
often funny messages filled with the key points
or highlights related to recent staff development
topics. Teachers get repetition, humor, and
personal connection- all qualities that make staff
development more effective. Jon has found that
posting Quick Tips provides a constant visual
reminder of these key points for everyone.
