Pension benefits for all Authority employees are provided
through the Health and Personal Social Services
Superannuation Scheme. This is a statutory scheme that
provides benefits on a ‘final salary’ basis at a normal
retirement age of 60. Members pay contributions of 6%
and employers 7% of pensionable earnings. Benefits
accrue at the rate of 1/80th of pensionable salary for
each year of service. In addition a lump sum equivalent
to 3 years pension is payable on retirement. Pension
payments increase in line with the Retail Prices Index.

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public
Safety is regarded as a related party. During the year the
HPSS Regulation and Improvement Authority has had
various material transactions with the Department and
with the Central Services Agency for which the
Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety
is regarded as the parent Department.
