Techniques learnt : Cell culture, cell proliferation and programmed cell death assays,<br />

stable and transient transfection. electrophoresis, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting,<br />

Northern blotting, Immunohistochemistry, FACS-Analysis, extraction of DNA and RNA ,<br />

real-time RT-PCR, Cellular fractionation(extraction of cytoplasmic, mitochondrial and<br />

nuclear proteins), Gel shift assay, ELISA , extraction, purification and characterization of<br />

proteins from different biological sources etc.<br />

Research experience :<br />

i) Role of endocannabinoids, uric acid etc. on the release of HMGB1( High<br />

mobility group box 1) protein, a recently identified pro-inflammatory cytokine<br />

and tissue damaged signal molecule, by monocytes/macrophages, endothelial<br />

cells, vascular smooth muscle cells etc. as well as mechanisms of suppression of<br />

inflammatory cytokine(LPS, TNF-a etc.)-induced HMGB1 and other<br />

inflammatory mediators ( iNOS, COX-2, matrix metalloproteinases etc.) release<br />

from monocytes/macrophages and endothelial cells and in vivo (mice models)<br />

using different agents.<br />

ii) Apoptosis and autophagy of glioma cells and apoptosis of neuronal cells, chang<br />

liver cells, hepatoblastoma (HepG2 , HuH 7), primary hepatocytes, induced by<br />

different stimulants .<br />

iii) Tissue factor expression and Platelets aggregation.<br />

Present research works: Screening of bioactive compounds from medicinally important<br />

plants using different solvents and investigating their potentiality in antimicrobial and antiinflammatory<br />

actions as well as their mechanism of actions.<br />
