FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK …
My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As you read this letter I will be in the Holy Land preparing for our
departure for Rome. Please know that you and our beloved Parish
and Academy are in my prayers at the various Holy Sites that I
am visiting. I also send greeting from the parishioners who are
with me on this pilgrimage.
Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. I pray that you will always be
mindful of God’s tremendous Love. How wonderful it is to belong
to a parish dedication to His most Sacred Heart.
We welcome Abbot Clement to our parish this Sunday for the
special Divine Mercy Devotion which will begin at 3 o’clock.
Please try to attend this beautiful time of prayer the Abbot.

of food for the Lyceum’s food drive to benefit the Cleveland Food

WHAT IS THE DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION???
This devotion, focused on Christ's limitless mercy
and love for mankind, is a relatively new one,
and is and based on the 1930s-era writings of
Sister Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun of
the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, canonized in
2000. The point of the devotion is mercy -- begging
His mercy, trusting in His mercy, and show
ing mercy to those around us. In 2000, the Holy
Father made it known that Low Sunday (the Sunday after Easter),
a day when the Gospel readings concern Christ's merciful institution
of the Sacrament of Penance, will also be known as "Divine
Mercy Sunday." (This official designation doesn't affect the liturgy
at all.)
The devotion is practiced by praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and
Novenas to the Divine Mercy (see below) ~ both of which may be
prayed at any time, but especially at "The Hour of Great Mercy" ~
3 p.m., the hour our Lord died, and in conjunction with Divine Mercy
Sunday.
On Divine Mercy Sunday, a plenary indulgence may be gained,
under the usual conditions, if one trusts in the Divine Mercy and
reflects the Divine Mercy in his life, prays the Divine Mercy
Novena from Good Friday to Low Sunday, goes to Confession on
Low Sunday (or in the 7 days preceding), venerates the image of
the Divine Mercy on Low Sunday, and attends Mass and receives
Communion on Low Sunday.
PRE-BAPTISM CLASS ...
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
If you are expecting the birth of your first child,
or have already welcomed a first child into your
family, we invite you to attend our next Pre-
Baptism Class which will be held on Sunday,
April 28, at 1 p.m. in Mary’s Room.
This class is required by the Diocese of Cleveland of all parents who
are requesting baptism of a first child or of those parents who did not
attend a class before a previous child’s baptism.
Please pre-register by calling the Parish Office (216.382.7601) no
later than April 24, 2013. Thank you.

April 16, and conclude on Tuesday, June 11. As in the past couple of years,
there will be two devotion times … one immediately following the 12:10 p.m.
Mass … and the other in the Church at 7 p.m. You are welcome to attend either
of these.

Baptisms:
First and third Sundays of each month at 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration
required. Parents expecting their first child should arrange to attend the
required Pre-Baptism class. These are offered at the parish on the 4th
Sunday of January, April, July and October at 1:00 p.m. in Mary’s Room.
Pre-registration is required. Call the Parish Office.
Marriages:
Engaged couples should make their arrangements with the priest at least
6 to 12 months in advance of their wedding.
Holy Communion for the Homebound:
Please call the Parish Office whenever a family member is seriously ill or
hospitalized. Arrangements can be made to bring Holy Communion to
the homebound weekly or monthly.

Sponsor Requirements:
All requests for sponsor certificates must be directed to a priest. Individuals must
be registered and practicing members of this parish, at least 16 years of age, and

married, the marriage must have been accepted by the Catholic Church.

Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend the first of our
2013 Festival meetings planned for Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in
Mary’s Room. Since we are a bit late getting
started … we need ALL captains and interested
“newcomers” to come and be prepared to
share ideas about how to improve our event.
Some folks have been working behind the scenes for the last couple
of months and are anxious to share some new ideas. If you
are not able to attend this very important meeting, please send
someone from your group.
The Guild’s monthly meeting will be Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in
the St. Gregory the Great Meeting Room of the rectory. All women
of the parish are welcome to join in the discussion of ourSpring
Social.
The adult ed series Reaffirming the Faith will continue
to meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in
Mary’s Room of the Church. We will continue the
study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church,
using video overviews of her history and development. Of particular
importance is that we will learn how the Catechism is not just
a body of “faith facts" to be memorized, but a precious map that
can guide us on our personal journey toward God. Hopefully
each person will see how his or her story fits into the "big picture"
of the salvation story and the journey of faith that is recounted
both in Sacred Scripture and the history and life of the Church.
There are no pre-requisites; weekly attendance is not required
(but will be beneficial!) For more information, please contact Tom

WHY WE BELIEVE, WHAT WE BELIEVE ...
What is Eucharist?
The Catechism teaches that the Holy Eucharist
is the Sacrament in which Jesus Christ gives
His Body and Blood ~ Himself ~ for us, so that
we, too, might give ourselves to Him in love and
be united with Him in Holy Communion.
In this way, we are joined with one Body of Christ, the Church.
The celebration of the Eucharist is “the source and summit of the
Christian Life” (Second Vatican council, Lumen Gentium.)
In the words of St. Thomas Aquinas, “The actual effect of the Eucharist
is the transformation of man into God.”

FUNDRAISER FOR THE ATHLETIC CLUB ...
The 4th Annual Jaguar Bean Bag Bash will be Saturday, May 4,
in the Parish Family Center (PFC) All proceeds will go to the
Athletic Club and will provide monies for the costs associated
with operating a sports program at our Academy. Please consider
participating in or volunteering for this great event.
