OVERVIEW<br />

<strong>Create</strong> a <strong>BUZZ</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>your</strong> <strong>school</strong>! It’s <strong>time</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>launch</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>youth</strong> social market<strong>in</strong>g<br />

portion of <strong>the</strong> campaign. This <strong>school</strong>-based, <strong>youth</strong>-led social market<strong>in</strong>g campaign<br />

uses new media, video “situations,” a website, and discussion <strong>to</strong> encourage<br />

students <strong>to</strong> question common myths and assumptions about teen dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g –<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> impact of peer pressure and <strong>the</strong> social consequences of dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g –<br />

and ultimately build skills <strong>to</strong> resist dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g alcohol. The <strong>in</strong>tervention targets high<br />

<strong>school</strong> students, for research <strong>in</strong>dicates that underage dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>creases<br />

dramatically dur<strong>in</strong>g this <strong>time</strong> <strong>in</strong> a young person’s life.<br />

Now, get creative and spread <strong>the</strong> word about <strong>your</strong> project! Splash <strong>your</strong> hallways<br />

with our Facebook status posters and vignette postcards, talk it up <strong>in</strong> <strong>your</strong> classes,<br />

TIMELINE<br />

will be most successful if you make it <strong>your</strong> own!<br />

Month One: Gett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> know Buzzcheck<br />

Know <strong>your</strong> product! Make sure <strong>your</strong> chapter checks out <strong>the</strong> website<br />

buzzcheck.com (don’t forget about alternalife), takes <strong>the</strong> quizzes, and<br />

watches all <strong>the</strong> videos.


Bra<strong>in</strong>s<strong>to</strong>rm with <strong>your</strong> chapter about how <strong>to</strong> spread <strong>the</strong> word about<br />

buzzcheck.com.<br />

Make an action plan (who’s do<strong>in</strong>g what and when).<br />

Meet with <strong>school</strong> adm<strong>in</strong>istra<strong>to</strong>rs and teachers <strong>to</strong> set dates for <strong>the</strong> classroom<br />

discussions and get approval <strong>to</strong> hang posters and hand out postcards and<br />

pencils.<br />

Month Two: Launch<strong>in</strong>g Buzzcheck<br />

H<strong>in</strong>t: Spread out <strong>your</strong> ideas throughout <strong>the</strong> week – one new th<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a day!<br />

<strong>Create</strong> a buzzcheck.com Facebook/MySpace/Twitter page – whatever <strong>your</strong><br />

<strong>school</strong> uses most – as a way <strong>to</strong> <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>the</strong> “buzz” and get people talk<strong>in</strong>g!<br />

Month Three & Four: Let’s chat!<br />

Hate public speak<strong>in</strong>g? Start rehears<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Buzzcheck chat; schedule a<br />

meet<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>your</strong> chapter and advisor and practice by us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> facilitation<br />

skills tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g section of <strong>the</strong> Discussion Guide with each o<strong>the</strong>r. When it<br />

comes <strong>time</strong> <strong>to</strong> present <strong>the</strong> chat <strong>in</strong> <strong>your</strong> classes, you will be a pro!<br />

Make a schedule for <strong>the</strong> Buzzcheck chats. Who’s present<strong>in</strong>g? When? What<br />

class?<br />

Start talk<strong>in</strong>g! Deliver <strong>the</strong> Buzzcheck chat <strong>in</strong> classes.


H<strong>in</strong>t: Check <strong>in</strong> with <strong>the</strong> teachers before class <strong>to</strong> rem<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong>m that<br />

you’re com<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>to</strong> confirm <strong>the</strong>y have a TV and a DVD player.<br />
