Fr Jim’s Jottings
Christ is Risen! Christ is Truly Risen!! We continue to acclaim the core
mystery of our Christian faith….Jesus is alive. He has overcome the
grip of sin and death with His glorious Resurrection.
And this weekend we add more excitement to this Easter season with
the celebration of First Communion for our young children.
Congratulations to each of them and their families.
Hopefully, seeing these little ones receive Jesus for the first time will
help us appreciate what we too often take for granted. Jesus loves us
more than we’ll ever know. He gives us His Body and Blood to remind
us of how much He cares about us. Our Lord’s eternal hope is that
someday we’ll believe all that He said and all that He did for us.
Finally, next weekend we will have a May crowning at the beginning of
our 10:30 a.m. Mass. One of our children will present a bouquet of
flowers at the Blessed Virgin Mary’s shrine…a sign of our love and
gratitude for her. Will you come and join us in honoring Mary?

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
Thank you to those who have contributed to this year’s Bishop’s Annual
Appeal. Our goal is $63,414. So far 399 parishioners have helped us
get to $61,177. Again, we ask every parishioner to help us not only
reach our target, but to actually exceed it if possible. 50% of anything
over our target is returned to our parish. Thanks once again to all
those who have generously helped us so far.
Parish Town Hall Meeting
Each year the parish has a “Town Hall” meeting for all parishioners.
It’s an opportunity present a picture of the overall activity of the parish.
It also provides the chance for parishioners to ask questions and
express concerns to the parish leadership. This meeting will be on
Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Holly Hall. Again, this is an invitation
for all parishioners.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
(We Long for God)
There are two ways in which human beings
are led to think that there must be a God: by
really thinking about the created things
around them, and by looking into their own
hearts.
The first way is by observation of what’s
around us. Whether one looks at the biggest
things that can be observed—like the
universe—or the smallest cell division which
eventually becomes a human being, one can
begin to suspect that there must be some
kind of mastermind behind it all.
The second way is by looking into our own
hearts and recognizing that we long for a
goodness and happiness which will not cease
nor disappoint. No matter how happy and
fulfilled we are at some times in our lives, we
long for something more. Something which
will make us happy forever. But we don’t find
it in the things around us, no matter how
much we have. The longing of our own hearts
can tell us that there must be someone who is
big enough, good enough, powerful enough,
loving enough who can fulfill our longing.
Look around you and look within. See if that
might be true of you

Adult Faith Formation Corner
Adult Confirmation
Adults who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to join
us for classes beginning in mid-August. These classes are for individuals who
have been baptized Catholic and prepared to receive the Sacrament of
Eucharist, but have not been confirmed. Please call Carol Jensen at 739-5119

Quick Journey Through the Bible
Classes are meeting on Monday evening, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary Parish
Center and Friday morning, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. through May 21. If you would

Picnic Lunch for High School Seniors, Lawrence
Students and Young Adults - Sunday, May 20. 11:30 a.m.
Young adults from St. Mary and St. Joseph Parishes, St. Mary & St. Joseph High
School Seniors and Lawrence Students who are worshipping with us are invited
to join us for a picnic lunch (hamburgers, brats, vegetarian options salads, fruit
and desserts) at St. Joseph Parish, Holly Hall on Sunday, May, 20 at 11:30 a.m.
Representatives from the Diocesan Office will be with us to talk about the next
World Youth Day in Brazil (July, 2013). Please let us know you can attend the
luncheon before May 16 (e-mail cjensen@stmaryparish.org or call 739-3700 x
22) so that we will have enough food for everyone! This is an informational
meeting only – no obligation on your part. And no cost to attend the picnic
meal!

May is the month that we traditionally honor Mary as Our Mother. This
week, think of ways that you can honor Mary and to become closer to Jesus
through her. You can commit to praying 3 Hail Mary’s every day, or praying
the entire rosary. Girls, you can pray that Mary will be your guide as you
mature into a woman. Boys, you can pray that Mary will guide your future
wife as she matures into a woman. Take a family trip to a Marian shrine like
Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, WI (Door County). Let us honor Mary
together.

NEW Altar Servers’ Training
It’s that time of the year when we invite any child in fourth grade or older to
join the ranks of being an Altar Server. It’s an opportunity to serve our Lord
and the parish. We do need more altar servers here at St Joe’s to help with
all of our weekend Masses.
If you are interested in becoming an altar server, please fill out the following
and drop it in the collection basket or at our Parish Office. You will be

ACES – Xavier Updates
International Food Fair
Xavier High School’s 40th Annual International Food Fair is
Sunday, May 6th from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The entire
community is invited to enjoy this family event that features
food from around the world. In addition to delicious food,
there are children’s games, a silent auction, a used book
sale, wonderful musical entertainment, art displays, flower
sales, raffles, and a cookie and bakery sale. Join the
thousands of others who attend Food Fair and have a great
time. Bring the family and spend the day. As a celebration
of 40 years, Xavier alumni and their families will be
admitted free.
The 40th Annual Xavier International Food Fair is Sunday,
May 6 at Xavier High School, 1600 Prospect Ave, in

Catholic Central News
Catholic Central will be having a dress down day on
Wednesday, May 2. If any student wants to dress down
they need to bring money which will be collected for
playground equipment. The Daisy Scouts at Catholic
Central will be coordinating this activity.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
TOOTSIE ROLL WEEKEND FUNDRAISER
The Knights of Columbus are again conducting
their statewide fund drive to aid CITIZENS WITH COGNITIVE/
INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES. This will be the weekend of
May 5 th & 6 th . The majority of funds raised stay in the
Appleton area community to support local programs for this
special group of people in their workplace, home and social
settings. Additionally, part of this program is to provide
scholarships to college juniors and seniors who are
pursuing a degree in special education. PLEASE SUPPORT
THIS PROJECT WITH YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS AT THE
WEEKEND MASSES ON May 5 th and 6 th.
