Sponsorship Opportunities
2012

The Santa Cruz Trolley Sponsorship Opportunities
The Santa Cruz Beach Trolley was all
that was hoped for and more! Carrying
22,750 riders over 80 days of service,
the trolley became a draw in its own
right and 2012 will be even better. We’d like
you on board as a trolley partner!
Plans for 2012 build on the trolley’s first year
adding a little more sizzle. The Santa Cruz Beach
– Downtown Trolley will run from Memorial Day
to Labor Day and selected spring and fall weekends
ten hours per day on a 30-minute round-trip
schedule. This replica trolley is outfitted with
digital signage displaying sponsors’ advertisements
in rotation. In 2012 these ads paid off.
Sponsors offered convincing
testimonials of their conversion
into customer visits and sales.
Ad-card
distribution rack
This year the trolley will add
an Ad-card distribution rack.
Advertisers will be able to
attract riders with discounts,
sales, and special events with
business-card size promotional
coupons. Also new this year is
advertising on the reverse side of the “ride free”
coupons that are distributed by sponsors, lodging,
and attractions.
The trolley has shown how effective it can be as
an advertising and
branding medium
as well as bring new
shoppers downtown
and residents
and downtown
visitors to the
beach. Join us – the
Santa Cruz Trolley
Consortium – in
making the most of
the trolley for your
business and the
community.
Some Facts About the Trolley and its Operation
• The trolley operates seven days a week, from
11 a.m. to 9 p.m., between Memorial Day and
Labor Day and selected weekends in the spring
and fall
• The trolley is operated by First Transit under
contract to the Santa Cruz Trolley Consortium.
First Transit is a national professional transit
company with an office in Santa Cruz
• The Consortium was organized by the
Santa Cruz Area Chamber of Commerce, the
Downtown Association of Santa Cruz, and the
City of Santa Cruz
• The operations costs of the trolley are funded
by sponsorships, advertising, the 25¢ per ride
fare and, in 2012 and 2013 with a grant from
the Monterey Bay Air Quality District
• The mission of the trolley is to improve the
economic vitality of the downtown and
beach area
• The Trolley transports visitors and residents
between downtown and the beach area. Goals
include increasing per visitor sales, reducing
traffic, increasing the use of remote parking,
and creating another fun attraction to draw
people to Santa Cruz
• While the trolley has a 1930s look, it is ADA
compliant and operates on clean-burning
compressed natural gas.
• The trolley was purchased by the former
Redevelopment Agency of the City of
Santa Cruz and is leased to the Consortium.
• The Trolley will again stop across the street
from the new Marine Sanctuary Exploration
Center and in front of the Del Mar Theater.
