Regular Meeting Minutes April 17, 2012 Page 13 13.0 New Business ‣ Mrs. Barnes expressed that it is the Board’s feeling that in the future, the Board would like to encourage the SBEA to make the salary guides more equitable in the distribution of the overall percentage increase. It was motioned by Mr. Smallwood, and seconded by Mrs. Kachinski, to approve the following as listed: Recommend that the Shrewsbury Board of Education approve the S.B.E.A. salary guides as presented pending S.B.E.A. ratification of the Memorandum of Agreement and the salary guides. Mrs. Barnes Ms. Hennelly Mrs. Keale Mrs. Konefal Mr. Nelson Mrs. Rieger Mr. Smallwood Mrs. Kachinski Mr. Costa AYE NAY ABSTAIN ABSENT COMMENTS X X X X X X X X X On a roll call vote, nine (9) members voted yes. 14.0 Public Participation – There was no public participation. 15.0 President’s Comments – Mr. Costa Mr. Costa thanked Mr. Smallwood for serving with distinction. He mentioned that they both joined the Board at the same time and served on the Finance Committee together during very difficult financial times for the district. In the first year of his term, the state aid for the district was cut approximately 90%. Mr. Smallwood was instrumental in keeping the programs in district in tact. Mr. Costa applauded his service and stated that he was sorry to see him go. Mr. Smallwood thanked the Board and commented that they are really making a difference in student’s lives and making everything better for the teachers and the students in Shrewsbury. Mr. Smallwood stepped down from the Board of Education. Mr. Costa stated that there were three really good candidates that have submitted letters of interest for the Board vacancy. He noted that for the ones not selected tonight, that they are eligible to run for the two open seats in the November 2012 election. The deadline for filing petitions is June 5 th , 2012 with the Monmouth County Clerk. The Board heard each of the candidate’s statements as to why they would be a good candidate to fill the Board Vacancy.
