A new industry in
rural South Carolina
gives an economic
boost to the region
Grant Allendale is
hiring in a corner of
Allendale County in
South Carolina.
Grant Forest Products’ announcement
in 2005 of plans to invest $260 million in a
new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility
came as great news to this county, which
at the time had an unemployment rate of
12 percent and an average annual wage of
about $9 per hour.
SCANA economic development
representatives and engineers, S.C.
Department of Commerce officials and the
Southern Carolina Regional Development
Alliance worked closely with Grant to
secure and develop an appropriate site,
according to Alliance Executive Director
Danny Black.
