Minutes of the General Meeting March 20, 2010<br />
The meeting was called to order by President Anne Marston at 9:05 a.m.<br />
We had no visitors today.<br />
Minutes: February minutes were approved. M/S/V, Mary Kelly/Mary Morel/All.<br />
1st VP: Mary Morel: April’s presentation will be Leslie Loomis, a massage therapist. She will present “Dyeing,<br />
Spinning, and Weaving Ergonomics”. May’s program will be by Jill Holbrook on “Spinning through the Ages”.<br />
June will be Nancy Wilson speaking on the criteria for yarn judging, regarding yarn judging at competitive<br />
shows and what they look for. July and September programs are TBD. The annual picnic will be in August.<br />
Mary has contacted Trish Lange, a weaver, for a possible program in the fall.<br />
2 nd VP: Kathy Kelly: Today is going to be a really great Silent Auction. Our next event will be the <strong>Mountain</strong><br />
Artist <strong>Guild</strong> Spring Art Show, Mother’s Day weekend (May 8-9), at the Prescott Courthouse Plaza. Diane<br />
Braun will lead this event. The following event will be the Folk Art Fair, June 5 & 6, at Sharlot Hall Museum.<br />
Sign-up sheets will be available at the break. The following events are later this year, and we will discuss them<br />
as they get closer: (1) the Summer Festival at the Courthouse Plaza, August 14-15, (2) the annual picnic, August<br />
21, at the clubhouse, at Yavapai Hills, (3) The Yavapai County Fair, September 30 – October 3, 2010.<br />
Remember to mark your calendar.<br />
Workshops: Barbara Albeck: Barb was contacted regarding a lady from Virginia who is in AZ (April 19-27)<br />
doing workshops. She does knitting, weaving and spinning. If anyone is interested in taking a workshop please<br />
let her know. Annemarie Bellem may hold some classes. One class would be on designing and knitting your<br />
own lace. Another class would be on a seamless woven shawl. Interest sign-up sheets will be available at the<br />
break. Lois Longfield will hold a locker hooking class on April 10. Sign-up sheets will be available at the break.<br />
The Southwest Fiber Arts <strong>Guild</strong> will meet at Barb’s home on March 27 for lunch and a trip to the Peaceful<br />
Prairie Ranch in Prescott Valley. Please let Barb know if you are interested in attending. Jill Holbrook will do<br />
a 2-day workshop May 13-14 on “Color” (drum carding for color, spinning painted rovings, etc., etc…all about<br />
color). Jill’s workshop will be at the <strong>Mountain</strong> Artist Gallery. Don’t forget to check the Yahoo site for<br />
workshop information and details.<br />
Special Interest Groups: Bobbin Lace, Beading, Spinning, and UFOs each reported that their groups are<br />
continuing to meet regularly.<br />
Sunshine: Mary Bricker – absent today. Anne reported that Patti Perkins’s mother recently passed away.<br />
Announcements: Anne – The collection cup will be passed around. If you forgot your name tag, you need to put<br />
in a quarter ($.25). Don’t forget “Fibers through Time”, April 15-18, in Phoenix, sponsored by the Arizona<br />
Federation of <strong>Weaver</strong>s and <strong>Spinners</strong> <strong>Guild</strong>.<br />
Hospitality: Yvonne Johnson – Refreshments provided by Barbara Albeck, Eleanor Bostwick, and Sharon<br />
Richards.<br />
Historian: Marilyn Smith – absent today<br />
Librarian: Patti Perkins – absent today. She has asked for a volunteer to take over as Librarian. Margaret<br />
Espinoza kindly volunteered.<br />
Membership: Caralee Roberts – We currently have 77 members.<br />
Newsletter: Diane Braun – As a regular reminder, all inputs for the newsletter are due the Saturday following<br />
the <strong>Guild</strong> meeting.<br />
Parliamentarian: Debbie Allen – absent today<br />
Publicity: Margaret Espinoza – She recently sent out 60 PSAs for the MSWG. She would like to start a Sunday<br />
Spinning group that would meet at the Prescott Public Library. This group is especially for folks who work<br />
during the week and are unable to attend the Monday Spinning group at Sharlot Hall. Contact Margaret if you<br />
are interested.<br />
