THE MOUNTAIN SPINNERS AND WEAVERS GUILD
VOLUME XXXIII NUMBER 8 April, 2010
P. O. BOX 1820 PRESCOTT, AZ 86302
President’s Letter
As I was in my dye studio (which is also my lampwork bead studio and my fused glass
studio and anything else I don’t do in the house) ‘painting’ a skein of rayon chenille and
blending one color into the next, I bubbled over with love for color. The next day I was
doing bead embroidery and experienced the same emotion as I gazed at several little
piles of seed beads. How lucky are we that we have so many outlets for our creativity?
The new special interest groups that are forming are additional lovely outlets! If you
have a yen to investigate something--a weave structure, felting, dyeing, color study, (the
list could go on and on)--chances are there are others with similar yens. You saw the list
I sent out after last month’s meeting; we can send one of those out every month. Voice
your interests, and we’ll see where it takes us!
I will miss the April meeting; I’ll be trying to sell the skein of chenille I mentioned
earlier, along with many, many more at the Arizona Federation of Weavers and
Spinners Guilds ‘Fibers through Time 2010’ show in Phoenix that same weekend.
Happy weaving & spinning,
Mountain Artists’ Guild Fair-on-the-Square Mother’s Day Show
Saturday and Sunday, May 8 & 9, 2010 – Sell you work; demonstrate your craft; eat, drink, and be merry while
socializing with the public as well as with your fellow guild members--OK, just a little eating (nothing too
messy) and drinking (nothing with a kick). Please contact Diane Braun (if you haven’t already) to sign up to sell
and/or demonstrate: (928) 442-9291 or highlander1@highcastlecrafts.com.
Handwoven Roving Reporter (HRR)
Handwoven magazine is actively working at increasing the flow of information among guilds throughout the
country. They requested to be on our newsletter distribution list but realized some of the information contained
in the newsletters should not be for national consumption; thus the idea for the HRR evolved. I see this person
focusing on one or two guild activities a month. Take some pictures, and write short explanations about what's
going on. Drop in on the different special interest groups, workshops, etc. Who is up for this fun position?
What great exposure for our guild. Email or call Anne, if you’d like to discuss this opportunity further!
read the statement as previously written and the Board’s revision of the statement. Marion Patterson will
