04 SUPPORT SERVICES Careers Australia cares about the needs of our students. If you are finding the program is conflicting with your work and domestic responsibilities, PLEASE do not hesitate to speak with an Educator or the Program Manager, the Head of School, or a delegate. There may be a simple solution when viewed from another perspective. Students who are not coping with the academic demands of the program will be counselled by their Program Manager, the Head of School, or a delegate. We are dedicated to continuously improving our services to meet the needs and expectations of our students and our friendly staff are on hand to give advice. Student Support Services helps to resolve problems that may impede the successful completion of student’s study programs. All students of Careers Australia have access to student support services. Services that we provide include: • Day to day administration support • Academic and language support • Orientation program to both Careers Australia and study within the specified program • Emergency and health related support • Employment seeking assistance and support • Australian Culture, Language and Communication • Campus administration procedure support • Career and further education pathway advice and support • Extra tutorials and evening class options COUNSELLING SUPPORT Most of our campuses have student counsellors available for consultations. Appointments can be made with student administration should any student require counselling sessions. EXTERNAL COUNSELLING SERVICES: Lifeline - Child, youth & family counselling 24 hour telephone counselling is available. Face to face counselling is available by appointment. Counselling support is provided for couples, families & individuals suffering crisis & emotional distress. The Second Story Youth Health Service Children, Youth and Women’s Health Service The Youth Health Line - 1300 13 17 19 MOBILE PHONE CALLERS 8303 1691 LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY SKILLS INDICATORS (LLN) All students are to complete a Language, literacy and numeracy Skills Indicators to identify any special learning needs a student may have prior to the commencement of training. This will help to identify any access and equity or learning support services that may be required to maximise the student’s chances of successfully completing their course. Once a student has been assessed as requiring additional support, the trainer/educator, in consultation with the Operations Manager/Head of School, can determine what level of assistance is required. Based on the individual students level of Skills Indicators, reasonable adjustment may be made to the delivery strategy to assist the student with successful completion of all units of competency. If the level of assistance is higher than the trainer/educator feels able to manage, the student can be referred to an external specialized service. Fees and charges for these services will not be met by CAG and will be the responsibility of the student. LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY SUPPORT In some campuses, Careers Australia offers a Language, literacy and numeracy Support Program designed to offer intensive support to all students who are identified as in need of improving their literacy and numeracy skills. Student support is offered based on the students’ Language, Literacy and Numeracy individual needs assessed through a Language Literacy Numeracy Skills Indicators. If at any time in the course you feel you would like further assistance, please speak to your trainer/ educator who can arrange the appropriate support. STUDY SKILLS STUDENT SUPPORT PROGRAM In some campuses, Careers Australia offers a Study Skills Program designed to offer support to all students enrolled in Diploma programs. This program is open to any student who wishes to participate. The program consists of support in terms of improving writing skills, reading skills, note taking, editing, correct referencing, studying strategies, numeracy skills, computer literacy support in programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel as well as support with projects and assignments.
