05 COURSE FEES, REFUNDS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INFORMATION TRAINING UNDER THE VICTORIA TRAINING GUARANTEE As part of the State Government’s Victorian Training Guarantee there is a limit on the number of government supported training hours available to students. If you are deemed not competent in a unit of your course and you are required to re-enrol to repeat the unit, you will be charged full fees for the unit. If a student withdraws, by written notice, from government-funded training or further education at any time up until 4 weeks after the scheduled commencement date of the course, Careers Australia will refund the tuition fees paid in respect of the enrolment in excess of the minimum fee, and any other fees and charges paid by or on behalf of the student. If a student withdraws from only part of an enrolment, then Careers Australia is required to refund only the portion of the tuition fee and materials fee applicable to that part of the training or further education. If a course is cancelled by Careers Australia at any time during the period of a person’s enrolment, then the Careers Australia must refund the full tuition fees, the pro-rata portion of any student services and amenities fees, any incidental fees for goods and services that have not been used prior to the date of cancellation, and fees for materials that have not been used prior to the date of cancellation. Careers Australia may grant refunds in other circumstances or of greater amounts if it sees fit. If a student has paid a fee for tuition which is no longer required because of recognition of prior learning, Careers Australia will refund an amount equal to the difference between the tuition fee paid, and the tuition fee payable for the adjusted hours of tuition that are to be undertaken. PROTECTION OF STUDENT FUNDS Careers Australia is a member of the TAFE Directors assurance scheme and agrees to conform to the Memorandum of Articles of Association, the By-laws and the Code of Ethics. Careers Australia Education Institute and Careers Australia Institute of Training, as part of the Careers Australia Group, are the only entities with an Assurance Scheme for VET Fee Help students. Careers Australia students can access the Statement of VET Tuition Assurance from the website – http://www.careersaustralia.edu.au/future-students/domestic-students/vet-fee-help COMPULSORY ADDITIONAL COSTS AND REFUNDS Compulsory additional costs are payable by the student as and when they are required, and in all cases are excluded from refund amounts due. 06 VET FEE-HELP FAIR TREATMENT AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY POLICY AND PROCEDURE 1. OVERVIEW Careers Australia will treat fairly all of its students and persons seeking to enrol with the Institute. 2. ACCESS & EQUITY The Institute applies access and equity principles through all its policies and procedures to promote full and equal participation of all students in its courses, to foster an environment free of discrimination and harassment, and to assist students to identify and achieve their desired outcomes. 3. PRE-ENROLMENT INFORMATION The Institute will ensure that prior to enrolment prospective students receive adequate information regarding the course, training, assessment, services and Commonwealth assistance provided by the Institute to enable them to make an informed decision about the suitability of the course and the Institute for their individual needs. The Institute will provide clear information to each student, prior to enrolment in regards to: • student selection, enrolment and orientation procedures; • course information, including educational and vocational outcomes; • fees and charges, including refund policy; • provision for language, literacy and numeracy assistance; • student support services; • welfare and guidance services; • flexible learning and assessment procedures; • grievance and appeals procedures; • disciplinary procedures; • recognition of prior learning (RPL) arrangements and credit transfer. 4. FAIR TREATMENT As a VET Provider the Institute will treat fairly: a) all students who are, or would be, entitled to VET FEE-HELP assistance; and b) all persons seeking to enrol with the Institute in a VET unit of study that meets the course requirements and who are, or would be, entitled to VET FEE-HELP assistance. 5. EQUAL BENEFITS AND OPPORTUNITIES As a VET Provider the Institute will have open, fair and transparent procedures that are based on merit for making decisions about: a) the selection, from among persons who are, or would be, entitled to VET FEE-HELP assistance and who seek to enrol with the College in a VET unit of study that meets the course requirements; and b) the treatment of students who are, or would be, entitled to VET FEE-HELP assistance undertaking a VET course of study.
