First edition of a rare guide to surveying and mapmaking for cameralists and economists by the economist and chief statistician of the Kingdom of Saxony Schlieben (1780–1839). ADB XXXI, pp. 510–512; not in Kress or Goldsmiths’; OCLC lists just one copy at Weimar, and a second edition of 1820 in the Danish Union catalogue. 83. SENAULT, L. Paris, the Author, [1680]. $4,400 8vo in fours (184 x 125mm), pp. [ii] engraved title page, 260, entirely engraved within double border; fanfare-style binding on green vellum. Second issue, with the breasts of the mermaids on p. 210 covered and without the dedication, of this Book of Hours, entirely engraved by Louis Senault, one of the finest writing masters of seventeenth-century France. [n.p., probably Sheffield or Birmingham, c. 1775–1785.] $9,200 Oblong folio (232 x 385 mm), 75 copper engraved plates; prices marked in manuscript; stitched as issued in contemporary stiff marbled wrappers, a fine copy. An exceptional trade catalogue of Sheffield Plate designs, unusually comprehensive and in a remarkable state of preservation. Most of the illustrations are lifesized, and include a range of candlesticks, condiment sets, an inkstand, salt-cellars, pepper casters, a cake basket fish-slice, toast-rack, teapots, coffeepots and tankards representative of contemporary Sheffield Plate production. Hodges, 1740. $1,650 Two parts in one volume, 8vo, engraved frontispiece, pp. [viii], 240 with 5 engraved plates; [ii], lxxx, [6] index, [2] blank, with 3 engraved plates, dampstain to gutter margin of last two leaves; contemporary calf, rubbed and bent. Second edition, much enlarged, of this compendium of secrets and recipes first published in 1738, covering amongst others glass-making and fire-works, silversmithing and jewellery, joinery and carpentry, dyeing and paper-marbling. Early edition of this classic of commercial and maritime law, collecting the works of Straccha, Nider, Ubaldus and Suarez. It includes a lengthy section on bankruptcy and maritime law and was first published in 1553, followed by editions in 1555 and 1556. The additional work by the Portugese author Santerna appears here for the first time as part of the work by Straccha (according to Kress, Italian Economic Literature). [London], Teape & Son, 1839. $800 Broadside, folio (407 x 269 mm); printed in double columns, with three illustrations; a fine wide-margined copy. Later edition (first 1835), with some adjustments, of this promotional broadside advertising the progress made on building Brunel’s Thames Tunnel at Rotherhithe. The Triumphant Bore, 94; all issues of this broadside are rare. 90. TRADE – EXPORT FORMS. Vice Consolato di Russia. Manifesti cominciando dal 1840. Trapani, 1840–49. $1,800 Small folio, pp. 196 of pre-printed shipping manifest forms, of which 137 completed in ink; contemporary flexible vellum-backed marbled paper boards. Fine documentation of the maritime trade going out from the harbour of Trapani in Sicily. The manifest gives bills of lading from January 1840 to March 1849, completed with name of ship and captain, destination and freight. Most of the cargo was sea salt, sent to destinations as far as Constantinople, Abo in Finland, Stavanger, Carlscrona, Stockholm, Bergen, Odessa, Reval and Riga. 91. TRIPPAULT, L.
