Regardless of whether it is a lay person or a 

professional rescuer, the ERC guidelines place a greater 

emphasis on the importance of CPR and advocate 

the prompt initiation of effective bystander CPR to 

significantly reduce mortality due to out-of-hospital 

CA. HeartSine can now provide a device to support 

these guidelines the introduction of the HeartSine 

samaritan PAD with CPR Advisor model 500P. 

CPR stands for Cardio (heart) Pulmonary (lung) 

Resuscitation. This has two parts: (a) pushing the 

heart to circulate blood to all the vital organs, and (b) 

breathing into the victim to give them oxygen. The 

results of extensive resuscitation research have been 

built into the HeartSine® PAD500P. 

The HeartSine® PAD500P uses an Impedance 

Cardiogram (ICG) to assess how good the CPR is - are 

the compressions fast enough? Hard enough? The 

Impedance Cardiogram (ICG) measures Impedance 

changes in blood volume in the chest cavity which 

determines effective CPR. Since the blood flow is 

related to how fast the compressions are applied as 

well as how hard, the PAD500P can guide you on both. 

‘Push faster’ means the compressions are too slow. 

Likewise, 'push harder' means more pressure is needed 

before concerning yourself with the speed. 

The simple objective is to ensure that the green 

indicators are on during CPR with the voice prompting 

‘good compressions’.One amber light means that either 

CPR is not being applied at all, or it is too gentle and 

too slow. All amber lights showing mean you are not 

applying enough pressure. All lights on mean you are 

pushing hard enough. The aural ‘clicks’ will help you 

keep time.

However, if good CPR is to be achieved at all, it is 

really important that the electrodes and the hands are 

placed correctly as the device cannot remove the need 

for CPR training. The left electrode should be placed 

at the apex to the left side of the patient, underneath 

the left arm just below and to the left of the pectoral 

muscle, the anterior (right) electrode should be placed 

on the right, below the clavicle and above the nipple 

and as per the diagram on the unit. Hands must be 

clasped and placed two fingers up from the bottom of 

the centre of the rib cage. Hands must not touch the 

electrodes. For this reason, HeartSine® strongly advises 

you to take a short training course on CPR. 


This is a totally unique machine that has no equal 

in the market place. You can expect a higher 

chance of patient recoveries with this machine. 

CPR Advisor 

The HeartSine samaritan PAD with CPR Advisor 

model 500P is capable of providing feedback to 

rescuers on the effectiveness of the cardiopulmonary 

resuscitation (CPR) they are providing to the 

victim. The PAD 500P will use both ECG and ICG 

measurements to analyse the effectiveness and 

rate of compressions given and based on this will 

advise the rescuer to push harder, faster or slower 

as appropriate. Feedback on the quality of the 

compressions applied is provided to the responder 

by means of audible and vocal prompts.

Early defibrillation is critical to resuscitation success. If a shock is delayed because the front line staff 

are reluctant to deliver a shock, then recover is less likely to happen. At the same time, installing an 

AED designed for a layperson means you will need to change defibrillators and possible cables and 

pads in order to provide ALS care, thus losing critical time to treatment. 

R Series BLS shows first responders a simple, one-button AED interface. When the Code Team arrives, 

they can simply press a button to turn the BLS into a full-function manual defibrillator. All chosen

The LEC range of Medical vaccine refrigerators maintain an internal temperature between 2°C and 8°C and the 

external digital temperature controller continuously monitors the minimum and maximum temperatures. An audiovisual 

alarm will also activate if the temperature deviates outside of the set parameters for more than 15 minutes. 

They also feature a door alarm which is activated if the door is left open for a prolonged time. All of the LEC medical 

range of pharmacy fridges have forced air cooling to ensure temperature stability and rapid temperature recovery 

after door openings. The LEC range of medical/vaccine refrigerators are the only fridges endorsed by the Pharmacy 

Guild of Australia and were the fridge of choice for the New Zealand Meningococcal program. The LEC range of 

fridges are also in use in large numbers in the hospitals throughout New Zealand. 

All of the fridges come standard with a one year warranty but this warranty can be extended to a three year if the 

fridge has a annual preventative maintenance check conducted by an authorised LEC service agent. The average 

cost of a preventative maintenance contract is $180.00 Plus GST. This involves a full temperature calibration check of
