The media industry have to constantly<br />

accelerating changes in the way we<br />

create and appreciate the media means<br />

that the skills required to work in the<br />

change. Scotland’s long-standing reputation for technical<br />

excellence and innovation is one which is developed through<br />

international initiatives like the Skillset Media Academy<br />

Network – a national footprint of colleges and universities<br />

to work with industry in developing a new wave of talent to<br />

create the media content of the future. Created and endorsed<br />

by Skillset, the network is made up of 17 academies, drawing<br />

together creative education partnerships from 43 colleges<br />

and universities across the UK, which are already centres of<br />

excellence in television production and interactive media.<br />

Within Scotland, the Creative Loop partnership sees<br />

Aberdeen College, Adam Smith College, Cardonald College,<br />

Dundee College, Perth College and Reid Kerr College join<br />

forces. Creative Loop strives to work alongside industry<br />

partners to build the capacity of the <strong>Scottish</strong> media sector<br />

to take advantage of the growing network opportunities and<br />

changing markets, by ensuring a healthy and competitive<br />

skills base is developed.<br />

“The commitment of the six colleges within Creative Loop<br />

and our key national partners the <strong>Scottish</strong> Funding Council,<br />

SQA, <strong>Scottish</strong> <strong>Screen</strong> and Skillset Scotland, clearly highlights<br />

the importance of partnership working in order to bridge<br />

the gap between Scotland’s colleges and industry,” says<br />

Creative Loop’s Project Manager, Helliate Rushwaya.<br />

“Creative Loop demonstrates how education and industry<br />

can work together to develop the next generation of<br />

talent that’s equipped with the required knowledge and<br />

expertise to meet the demands of a vibrant creative<br />

media sector.”<br />

Ensuring that the quality of students entering the labour<br />

market is high and enhances their employability, and also<br />

ensuring that students are in direct contact with industry<br />

standard practice, Creative Loop has already secured top<br />

level employer commitment to this work. So whatever<br />

the future brings, Scotland’s screen industries can expect<br />

a united understanding of the latest developments<br />

through close partnership between education, industry<br />

and the media talent of tomorrow.<br />
