1. Introduction<br />

1.1 The Council is preparing a series <strong>of</strong> Development Plan Documents<br />

required under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004,<br />

which will form part <strong>of</strong> the new ‘Local Development Framework’<br />

(LDF). The Council’s current programme for development plan<br />

production is set out in its Local Development Scheme 1 .<br />

1.2 When adopted over the next few years, the new style plans will<br />

replace those policies in the <strong>Selby</strong> <strong>District</strong> Local Plan, which are<br />

‘saved’ under transitional legislation until replaced by policies in the<br />

LDF.<br />

1.3 The <strong>Core</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> is one <strong>of</strong> the first new style Development Plan<br />

Documents (DPD) to be produced by the Council and will provide<br />

provides (PC1.1) a context with which subsequent DPDs must<br />

conform.<br />

1.4 The <strong>Core</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> will provide provides (PC1.2):<br />

• a spatial vision for <strong>Selby</strong> <strong>District</strong> and strategic objectives to<br />

achieve that vision.<br />

• a development strategy which establishes:<br />

o the context for designating areas where specific policies<br />

will apply, either encouraging development to meet<br />
