Four easy steps for a great start at Seneca
To guarantee we keep a seat for you at Seneca please complete the four steps below and read the information in
this Acceptance Guide carefully.
STEP 1
Confirm at ontariocolleges.ca
You must inform ontariocolleges.ca that you are accepting our offer of admission. The offer expiry date is on
your letter. Your username and password will be required to log in to your online ontariocolleges.ca account.
You will be able to review our offer of admission and confirm the program of your choice.
STEP 2
Pay your fees by the due date on your offer of admission
Do not to let this date go by without making a payment or without making arrangements for financial
assistance. If you fail to make a payment by the due date your seat may be offered to the first applicant on
the waiting list.

Book your Skills Assessment via

As a new Seneca student, you are required to write the Skills Assessment, even if you have already written a
pre-admissions test. The Skills Assessment is a tool to determine your academic placement in English and/or
Mathematics. We need the results of this assessment to prepare your timetable. Students accepted into a
graduate certificate program do not need to complete this assessment. While there is no assessment fee, if
you do not write the assessment on time, you may incur a $30.00 late fee.
If you require academic accommodations related to a disability, please see a Disability Counsellor prior to
arranging the Skills Assessment test. To speak to a counsellor, call 416-491-5050, ext. 22900.

You may have been granted conditional acceptance. Please review our Offer of Admission letter for any
conditions. If you have not met all the admission requirements because you are still in school or completing
a course required for admission, you have until the first day of classes to complete your studies and meet
the conditions.

PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT (PLA) and ADVANCED STANDING
For information on all Admissions Policies and Procedures such as Prior Learning Assessment and Advanced Standing, please visit

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL OR DROP ONE OF MY HIGH SCHOOL SUBJECTS?
If you fail or drop a subject, do not obtain your Secondary School Graduation Diploma or do not complete your upgrading program to the Grade
12 level, you must contact the Admissions Office immediately at admissions@senecacollege.ca or 416-491-5050, ext. 22800. There are options
available which may enable you to qualify for admission. If you do not let us know before your program starts, you may forfeit your seat in the
program.

Be sure you do not miss your payment deadline without contacting us.
This applies to all new students including those who may be applying or
waiting for Ontario Student Assistance (OSAP).
If you miss the payment date and do not contact us, we may offer your
seat to the first person on the waiting list.
The expiry date is the last possible date for your tuition payment to
arrive at Seneca College in order to guarantee your seat in the program.
• For programs that start in September 2012, the Tuition Fee Due Date is
June 15, 2012.
• For programs that start in January 2013, the Tuition Fee Due Date is
October 10, 2012.
• For programs that start in May 2013, the Tuition Fee Due Date is
March 8, 2013.
FULL - TIME OR REDUCED COURSE-LOAD DAY
STUDENTS WITHDRAWING FROM A PROGRAM
Academic Standing
• Withdrawal from the College before the tenth day of scheduled classes
will delete any reference in the student academic record.
• Withdrawal from the College after the tenth day of scheduled classes
and before the Final Withdrawal Date as published by the Registrar will
result in the grade designation “***“ on the student academic record
and no tuition fees will be refunded.
• Withdrawal from the College without written notification to the
Registration Office by the Final Withdrawal Date or withdrawal after the
Final Withdrawal Date will result in the appropriate grade designation
“DNA” or “F” and no tuition fees will be refunded.
Note: See Academic Policy Section 11.2 for timelines related to
“Discontinuing a Subject”.
For any starting date, you may be accepted after the payment date in
which case your due date will be stated on your fee invoice. This date is
usually within two weeks or less of receiving the offer of admission.
WAITING FOR OSAP
You must contact the Admissions Office well BEFORE the fee payment
expiry date and sign a Fee Payment Promissory Note Contract with
Seneca. Be sure not to wait until the last minute to make these
arrangements. Additional information regarding payment options are
available on the following page.
Withdrawal AFTER PAYING MY TUITION FEES
Withdrawing from the College impacts your eligibility for a refund and
your academic standing.
In order to officially withdraw, you must notify the Registration Office
in writing of your intent to withdraw. This notification can be submitted
by registered mail, by fax at 416-493-3958 or in person within the published
timelines. Not attending class and/or telling the professor of your
intention to withdraw are not acceptable notifications. The date your
letter is received in the Registration Office will be the official date of
your withdrawal.

Payment Options*
Payment Option A: Full semester one fees should be paid before
the due date on your invoice. Students paying full fees by the due
date will not incur a late payment charge.
Payment Option B: If you are experiencing financial difficulty
and have applied for a student loan (OSAP), a partial payment of
$400.00 is required by the due date on your invoice. However, if
you choose Payment Option “B”, please consider the following:
1. A $65.00 late fee payment charge will automatically be
applied to your student account.
2. A Promissory Note form must be submitted with payment.
This form indicates when the balance of fees are to be paid,
normally within two weeks of the start of classes; however,
once notified of your OSAP loan, it should be negotiated
immediately and not delayed until the balance of fees are
due. The Promissory Note may be completed when making
an in-person payment or may be downloaded, printed and
mailed with your payment:

* Payment Options pertain to domestic students only. New
International students must pay full fees by the fees due date.
Tuition Fees Refund
In accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Training, Colleges
and Universities, if official notification of withdrawal is submitted
on or before the tenth day of classes:
• Full tuition fees, less $100.00 will be refunded.
• Fees collected in advance for future semesters will be refunded
in full.
Note: This does not apply to international students. International
students have a separate fee refund policy.
Pay at a Canadian Financial Institution
Take your Student Account Invoice, along with your fee payment,
to your financial institution. It can take up to 5 business days to
have your payment reach the College so make sure you make your
payment at least 5 days before the fees due date on the invoice. If
you are required to show your receipt in the future, have the front
of your invoice stamped by the teller or attach the transaction slip
to your invoice.
Pay by Credit Card via Mail or Fax
On the tear-off portion of your Student Account Invoice, clearly
write your credit card number and expiry date, then mail it back to
us in the pre-addressed envelope. Alternatively, you may prefer to
send this information to the fax number provided.
Pay Using Telephone or PC Banking
Three easy steps will allow you to make your fee payments using
this option. Here's how:
• Set Seneca up on your list of ‘payees’ with your financial
institution.
• Your 9 digit student ID number will act as your account number
• Specify your payment amount
Your fee payment will then be forwarded to us for processing, and
applied to your student account. It can take up to 5 business days
to have your payment reach the College.
Pay by Telephone Using Your Credit Card
Call us at 416-491-5050, ext. 22800. Be ready to provide your
name, student number, program of study and your credit card
number and expiry date to one of our Admissions Advisors. We
will process your fee payment over the telephone. Please expect
our phone lines to be busy. We accept payment by Visa, Master-
Card, and American Express.
Pay in Person at the Registration Office
Go to any campus Registration Office to make your payment in
person. Just bring your Student Account Invoice along with your
payment. Valid in-person payment methods are:
• Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card
• Interac Direct Payment
• Certified Cheque made payable to Seneca College
• Money order made payable to Seneca College
• Cash
Pay by Certified Cheque or Money Order via Mail
Using the pre-addressed cashier’s envelope in the acceptance
package, mail in the tear-off section of the invoice with a certified
cheque or money order. Please make it payable to Seneca College.
Payment must reach the Admissions Office by the due date on
your invoice, so mail your payment at least 3 business days ahead
of time. Please don’t forget to put postage on the envelope.
Please note that we cannot accept personal cheques.

WHAT IS INVOLVED
1. A Short Essay (handwritten)
To measure your ability to write a formal essay, you will have 45 minutes to write a 300-word essay based on a short article.
2. Computerized Placement Tests
Reading Comprehension
You will read different pieces of writing and answer questions based on the content to measure your comprehension.
Arithmetic*
This test involves operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents and problem solving.
Elementary Algebra*
This tests your understanding of integers and rational numbers, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities and word problems.
*(not for Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students)
3. Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students will need to take a compulsory Mathematics multiple choice test that will take
approximately 40 minutes.

The assessment will last up to approximately three hours.

Student Loans and Financial Aid
Registered students who are Canadian citizens, protected persons or have permanent resident
status may apply for financial assistance through the Ontario Student Assistance Program
(OSAP). If eligible, students receive assistance through The Canada Student Loan and/or Ontario
Student Loan plan.
Check the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website at edu.gov.on.ca for updates on changes to the Ontario Student
Assistance Program for 2012/2013. You should apply for financial assistance as soon as you have confirmed acceptance to a program.
You can apply for OSAP at no cost via the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website at osap.gov.on.ca. Paper applications
can be printed directly from the website at osap.gov.on.ca. Your completed application must be submitted to the Financial Aid
Office at the campus you will be attending: Newnham, Seneca@York, King or Markham. OSAP also provides assistance to eligible
students through the following programs:

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES & AWARDS
Board of Governors' Entrance Scholarships:
CRITERIA: There are six Board of Governors’ Entrance Scholarships that are available to Canadian citizens, permanent
residents and protected persons entering Seneca College directly from high school. Applicants must be registered in a
full-time post-secondary program in the Fall semester. This award is not available to students in the Winter or Summer
semester.
SELECTION: Will be made by the College Awards Committee and based primarily on high academic standing in the
applicant’s Grade 12 subjects in high school. The student’s highest marks in four academic subjects will be used*.
Where candidates are of equal academic standing, factors such as extra-curricular activities, community involvement
and supporting documents are used in the selection process.
*Previous Board of Governors’ Scholarship recipients have held an overall secondary school average of 85% or greater in
their top four subjects during their final year. Note: Emphasis is placed on the academic subjects English, Mathematics
and Sciences at the Grade 12 level.

Tuition Assistance Entrance Bursaries: The College offers more than 500 tuition assistance bursaries of up to
$2,000 to students entering their first year. To apply for this bursary, you must be an Ontario resident and demonstrate
financial need. Information is included in your admissions package.

Varsity Sports
The Seneca Sting is the most-decorated athletic program in the history of
the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) having won more than
450 medals since 1967. With 15 varsity sports teams, comprised of male
and female student-athletes, competing nationally, against other Canadian
colleges, through the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and
provincially, through the OCAA, Seneca is proud of its longstanding winning
tradition. Admission to all varsity events is free for all Senecans with special
giveaways, door prizes and in-game entertainment available.
Campus Recreation
Seneca College is home to one of the largest collegiate campus recreation
programs in Canada and proudly serves more than 30,000 members in the
Seneca community with a variety of recreation, fitness and wellness activities
to help students relax, keep fit, have fun and meet new people. Seneca
Recreation offers cricket, yoga, basketball, dance, hockey, self-defence and
many more programs across the College’s major campuses. From half
and full-day trips off-campus for rock climbing, snowboarding, bowling and
paintball to local professional sporting events and so much more, Seneca
students can enjoy organized or unstructured activities at their campus
of study. Students in search of passive or competitive physical activities,
sport-related or wellness-based programs, can find what they’re looking for
through Seneca Recreation.
Fitness Centres
Fitness Centres are located at all four of Seneca’s main campuses
(Newnham, Markham, King and Seneca@York). Seneca Fitness Centres
offer their members expert advice and a variety of classes to suit their interests.

Getting Involved
Seneca College students or other members of the Seneca community
looking to get involved with Athletics and Recreation as an athlete, volunteer,
part-time or full-time staff member or student leader will find plenty of
opportunities at all Seneca campuses. From joining a varsity or extramural
team, to serving as a student leader or earning an athletic bursary through
the Student Athletic Association, your campus varsity or recreation councils
or working part-time as a staff member on the Athletics and Recreation
team; opportunities abound for Senecans looking to get involved in making
us Canada’s most active, spirited and vibrant college community. Those
interested in pursuing opportunities within Athletics and Recreation or getting
involved with the Student Athletic Association are encouraged to contact

HEALTH INSURANCE
All full-time day-time domestic students, by being members of the

The multi-functional Seneca OneCard is your Photo ID card as well as
your library card. Your initial card is covered by the Student Services Fee
and can be used as a payment card once money has been deposited to
pay for photocopies and printing services.

The Seneca OneCard is for all new full-time students and staff. To obtain

plus taxes to replace your lost or stolen card.

Parking spaces are available for daily parking at most campuses.
Students are encouraged to use public transportation or carpool
whenever possible as parking spaces are limited. Parking permits are
available for Newnham, King and Markham campus. Pay and Display
machines are available in the parking lots for those who have not
purchased a Semester Parking Permit. The machines take cash and
credit cards. For current parking rates, please contact the Parking office

College Security is responsible for the safety of occupants, the protection
of college assets and the enforcement of various college policies.
Security guards are present at all campus locations during peak hours.
Security officers respond to safety and security threats, investigate
incidents, provide first aid, manage access control, provide general
information and control keys. At some locations, College Security is
available to escort students or staff to their vehicle or bus stop. For more

For added safety, emergency telephones are located at several campuses.
These phones are directly linked to College Security. Surveillance
cameras are in place at various locations at most campuses.
STUDENT INVOLVEMENT AT SENECA
Co-curricular activities at Seneca complement your classroom
experience. Activities include new student orientations, Frosh Week
activities, International Days, Black History Month activities, trips to
Niagara Falls, Student Club activities, intramural leagues, The Seneca
Leadership Program events, workshops, and the radio station at the
Seneca@York Campus. At Seneca, student leaders play an important role

zipcar
Zipcar, the popular car-sharing service, is now offered at Seneca. The costeffective
and convenient transportation option is available 24 hours a day,
seven days a week at the King and Newnham campuses to all students
and employees, ages 21 and older who have a valid driver’s licence.
Senecans can join Zipcar for a $25 annual membership fee and drive for
as little as $8 an hour (which includes the rental, insurance and gas). The
membership fee also entitles users to park for free in designated Zipcar
spots at the King, and Newnham campuses.

Computing Commons - computer and information technology
assistance is available at the Student Help Desk, in the Computing Commons,
via in-person, telephone and e-mail inquiries. The Student Help Desk website
contains FAQs, instruction sheets and additional technical support information.
Support is provided for inquiries such as using College e-mail, wireless
connectivity, access to My.Seneca (the College's Portal and Learning
Management System), ResNet support, SIRIS (student timetable system
and more), troubleshooting hardware and software issues, etc. All Seneca
College students are provided with a College e-mail account and have access
to SeneNet (wired and wireless connectivity). Application software varies by
campus and is based on “campus specific” requirements.

Seneca Libraries supports the academic needs of students, faculty
and staff by offering research instruction, facilitating access to scholarly
resources and enabling collaborative work by providing group-study
spaces.
Through the library website, the College community has access to over
161 databases, an online stock photo collection (for student assignments),
over 9,000+ streaming educational and instruction videos, research
tutorials, online course readings, 65,000+ eBooks and over 60 different
research guides, all of which are available online, 24/7. The library also provides
audio-visual equipment, multi-media and print resources that
support all programs of study.
Seneca Libraries staff offer assistance in person, through email, or online
