<strong>Seneca</strong> <strong>College</strong> has a long and proud tradition of sporting excellence dating<br />

back to the <strong>College</strong>’s formation in 1967. From varsity sports to campus<br />

recreation, the goals of the Athletics and Recreation team have always been<br />

to serve the <strong>Seneca</strong>n community with unparalleled professionalism and offer<br />

the very best programs to optimize the health and lifestyles of our students,<br />

staff and neighbours while boosting<br />

to <strong>Seneca</strong>ns through Athletics and<br />

Recreation.<br />

Varsity Sports<br />

The <strong>Seneca</strong> Sting is the most-decorated athletic program in the history of<br />

the Ontario <strong>College</strong>s Athletic Association (OCAA) having won more than<br />

450 medals since 1967. With 15 varsity sports teams, comprised of male<br />

and female student-athletes, competing nationally, against other Canadian<br />

colleges, through the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and<br />

provincially, through the OCAA, <strong>Seneca</strong> is proud of its longstanding winning<br />

tradition. Admission to all varsity events is free for all <strong>Seneca</strong>ns with special<br />

giveaways, door prizes and in-game entertainment available.<br />

Campus Recreation<br />

<strong>Seneca</strong> <strong>College</strong> is home to one of the largest collegiate campus recreation<br />

programs in Canada and proudly serves more than 30,000 members in the<br />

<strong>Seneca</strong> community with a variety of recreation, fitness and wellness activities<br />

to help students relax, keep fit, have fun and meet new people. <strong>Seneca</strong><br />

Recreation offers cricket, yoga, basketball, dance, hockey, self-defence and<br />

many more programs across the <strong>College</strong>’s major campuses. From half<br />

and full-day trips off-campus for rock climbing, snowboarding, bowling and<br />

paintball to local professional sporting events and so much more, <strong>Seneca</strong><br />

students can enjoy organized or unstructured activities at their campus<br />

of study. Students in search of passive or competitive physical activities,<br />

sport-related or wellness-based programs, can find what they’re looking for<br />

through <strong>Seneca</strong> Recreation.<br />

Fitness Centres<br />

Fitness Centres are located at all four of <strong>Seneca</strong>’s main campuses<br />

(Newnham, Markham, King and <strong>Seneca</strong>@York). <strong>Seneca</strong> Fitness Centres<br />

offer their members expert advice and a variety of classes to suit their interests.<br />

Visit the Fitness Centre at your campus to learn about memberships<br />

and programs offered.<br />

Getting Involved<br />

<strong>Seneca</strong> <strong>College</strong> students or other members of the <strong>Seneca</strong> community<br />

looking to get involved with Athletics and Recreation as an athlete, volunteer,<br />

part-time or full-time staff member or student leader will find plenty of<br />

opportunities at all <strong>Seneca</strong> campuses. From joining a varsity or extramural<br />

team, to serving as a student leader or earning an athletic bursary through<br />

the Student Athletic Association, your campus varsity or recreation councils<br />

or working part-time as a staff member on the Athletics and Recreation<br />

team; opportunities abound for <strong>Seneca</strong>ns looking to get involved in making<br />

us Canada’s most active, spirited and vibrant college community. Those<br />

interested in pursuing opportunities within Athletics and Recreation or getting<br />

involved with the Student Athletic Association are encouraged to contact<br />

their local Recreation office.<br />
