1.1 Document Layout<br />

This document presents information on the treatment of structures defined under standard<br />

ECMA 167.<br />

This document is separated into the following 4 basic sections:<br />

• Basic Restrictions and Requirements - defines the restrictions and<br />

requirements that are operating system independent.<br />

• System Dependent Requirements - defines the restrictions and requirements<br />

that are operating system dependent.<br />

• User Interface Requirements - defines the restrictions and requirements which<br />

are related to the user interface.<br />

• Informative Annex - Additional useful information.<br />

This document presents information on the treatment of structures defined under standard<br />

ECMA 167. The following areas are covered:<br />

Interpretation of a structure/field upon reading from media.<br />

<br />

Contents of a structure/field upon writing to media. Unless specified otherwise<br />

writing refers only to creating a new structure on the media. When it applies to<br />

updating an existing structure on the media it will be specifically noted as such.<br />

The fields of each structure are listed first, followed by a description of each field with<br />

respect to the categories listed above. In certain cases, one or more fields of a structure<br />

are not described if the semantics associated with the field are obvious.<br />

A word on terminology: in common with ECMA 167, this document will use shall to<br />

indicate a mandatory action or requirement, may to indicate an optional action or<br />

requirement, and should to indicate a preferred, but still optional action or requirement.<br />

Also, special comments associated with fields and/or structures are prefaced by the<br />

notification: "NOTE:"<br />
