Camp Staff<br />
Excited to share their knowledge and love for n<strong>at</strong>ure, the full-time <strong>N<strong>at</strong>ure</strong> <strong>Center</strong> n<strong>at</strong>uralists are<br />
dedic<strong>at</strong>ed professionals with a long-term commitment to environmental educ<strong>at</strong>ion. Our seasonal<br />
camp staff includes school teachers and highly trained n<strong>at</strong>uralists who return year after year. All<br />
staff are CPR and First Aid Certified to insure your child’s safety. Experience and observ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
are the primary tools by which we teach, empower and encourage students of all ages to explore<br />
and learn about the n<strong>at</strong>ural world th<strong>at</strong> surrounds them.<br />

All camps are held rain or shine, but may be modified due to inclement we<strong>at</strong>her. Please be<br />
sure to send campers with rain gear and a change of clothes should we get stuck in a sudden<br />
downpour or just want to have fun splashing around in the puddles! <strong>N<strong>at</strong>ure</strong> Nursery and up<br />
include a nut-free snack each day.<br />
Spring Break Camp<br />
April 1 through 5<br />
9 am to 3 pm, with extended care available from 3 to 5 pm<br />
Children in Grades K through 5 will enjoy a week fi lled with<br />
adventure and discovery with themes like Signs of Spring and Where is<br />
the W<strong>at</strong>er? Through hikes, games, crafts, interactive learning and a<br />
whole lot of fun, your child will gain an appreci<strong>at</strong>ion for n<strong>at</strong>ure and<br />
the outdoor world. Children can sign up for one, two, three, four<br />
or all fi ve days. Snacks are provided, but campers should bring a<br />
bag lunch. Members: $50/day or $225/week; Non-Members: $55/<br />

Eco-Rangers is a perfect fit for older campers who are looking for more in-depth adventure<br />

change of clothes, w<strong>at</strong>er bottle and lunch in a reusable container each day. A packing list will be<br />

surrounding the <strong>N<strong>at</strong>ure</strong> <strong>Center</strong> and how to<br />
rel<strong>at</strong>e th<strong>at</strong> knowledge to the younger campers.<br />
As part of this program you will receive<br />
First Aid and CPR training and certific<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
N<strong>at</strong>uralists in Training will also have the<br />
opportunity to assist with our younger camp<br />
groups, as well as, explore other n<strong>at</strong>ural areas<br />

Climbing to New Heights!<br />

Do you like to rock climb and hike? If so,<br />
then this is the camp for you. Not only will<br />
we spend time hiking in the Doan Brook<br />
Gorge and practice our bouldering skills, but<br />
part of our adventures will take us climbing<br />
indoor <strong>at</strong> the Cleveland Rock Gym and<br />
outdoors within the Hinckley Reserv<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
(led by the Cleveland Rock Gym). Learn<br />
the basics of tent camping including setting<br />
up a tent, cooking on a dual burner camp<br />
stove and building a campfire, all within the<br />
guidelines set by the N<strong>at</strong>ional Parks. We’ll<br />
camp <strong>at</strong> Willow Lake Park campground close<br />
to Hinckley Reserv<strong>at</strong>ion on Thursday night.<br />
Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch<br />
are provided. $360 members $380, nonmembers<br />

Hocking Hills <strong>Adventure</strong><br />

This week will be an adventure to remember<br />
as we explore the amazing Hocking Hills<br />
area in Southeastern Ohio. On Monday,<br />
Tuesday and Wednesday we will prepare<br />
for our trip and work on team building<br />
activities. Thursday we will travel and set up<br />
camp for one night <strong>at</strong> Hocking Hills St<strong>at</strong>e<br />
Park in Logan, Ohio. Campers will learn (or<br />
reinforce) the basics of tent camping including<br />
setting up a tent, cooking on a dual burner<br />
camp stove and building a campfire, all within<br />
the guidelines set by the N<strong>at</strong>ional Parks.<br />
During our two-day stay we will discover<br />
the wondrous caves, w<strong>at</strong>erfalls, and rock<br />
form<strong>at</strong>ions throughout Hocking Hills and<br />
will get a bird’s eye view of it all as we go on a<br />
zipline adventure with Hocking Hills Canopy<br />
Tours. Thursday dinner through Friday<br />
dinner are provided. $400 members, $420<br />
non-members (includes zipline canopy tour).<br />

up a tent, cook on a camp stove, or build<br />
a campfire? Then join the Environmental<br />
Educ<strong>at</strong>ors from the <strong>N<strong>at</strong>ure</strong> <strong>Center</strong> for two<br />
nights of family camping fun <strong>at</strong> Presque<br />
Isle in Erie, PA. We will provide you with<br />
a packing list of wh<strong>at</strong> to bring as well as an<br />
itinerary for each day. Once we set up camp,<br />
families will have the opportunity to explore<br />
the campgrounds and surrounding area on<br />
their own or particip<strong>at</strong>e in guided hikes and<br />
activities with NCSL staff before we all meet<br />
back <strong>at</strong> the camp site to prepare for dinner<br />
and evening activities each night.<br />

Financial Aid<br />
Financial aid packages are available. Need-based financial aid covers 25-75% of the cost of one week<br />
of camp. Visit www.shakerlakes.org or call (216) 321-5935 for more inform<strong>at</strong>ion and applic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
m<strong>at</strong>erials. Applic<strong>at</strong>ions are due April 1, <strong>2013</strong>. Award recipients will be notified in early May.<br />
Policies And Frequently Asked Questions<br />
• Full payment is due <strong>at</strong> time of registr<strong>at</strong>ion. Member registr<strong>at</strong>ion begins Monday, January 14, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
Non-member registr<strong>at</strong>ion begins Monday, January 28, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
• Space is limited, please register early. Each camp typically has a maximum of 12 campers per<br />
session. Eco-Rangers and BIG/little have a maximum of 10 campers per session.<br />
• Registered campers receive a confirm<strong>at</strong>ion letter and medical form via mail and/or email before<br />
camp starts. Medical form must be completed before or on the first day of camp. Forms are also<br />
available on-line.<br />
• Early-Bird Discount — Register before March 1, <strong>2013</strong> to receive $5 off per week of camp.<br />
• Sibling Discount — $5 off for each additional child registered <strong>at</strong> the same time.<br />
• Cancell<strong>at</strong>ion Policy —Cancell<strong>at</strong>ions made before June 1, <strong>2013</strong> will be refunded (minus a $50<br />
processing fee per week). Camp fee may be forfeited if cancell<strong>at</strong>ion is not made by June 1, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
The <strong>N<strong>at</strong>ure</strong> <strong>Center</strong> reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment is low, in which case you will<br />
receive a full refund. Camp cancell<strong>at</strong>ions are determined two weeks before the start d<strong>at</strong>e of each<br />
individual camp week.<br />
• Switching sessions will incur a $25 change fee.<br />
• To ensure a safe camp environment, the classroom entrance remains locked. Doors open five<br />
minutes before camp begins and ends.<br />
• The <strong>N<strong>at</strong>ure</strong> <strong>Center</strong> reserves the right to refuse or discontinue an individual’s particip<strong>at</strong>ion if his or<br />
her welfare or the welfare of others is in jeopardy.<br />
• Each camp has one n<strong>at</strong>uralist and <strong>at</strong> least one teen volunteer. To receive more inform<strong>at</strong>ion about<br />
