Outdoor Adventure Camps
Camp Staff
Excited to share their knowledge and love for nature, the full-time Nature Center naturalists are
dedicated professionals with a long-term commitment to environmental education. Our seasonal
camp staff includes school teachers and highly trained naturalists who return year after year. All
staff are CPR and First Aid Certified to insure your child’s safety. Experience and observation
are the primary tools by which we teach, empower and encourage students of all ages to explore
and learn about the natural world that surrounds them.

Family Family Camping Fun August 19-21 12
All camps are held rain or shine, but may be modified due to inclement weather. Please be
sure to send campers with rain gear and a change of clothes should we get stuck in a sudden
downpour or just want to have fun splashing around in the puddles! Nature Nursery and up
include a nut-free snack each day.
Spring Break Camp
April 1 through 5
9 am to 3 pm, with extended care available from 3 to 5 pm
Children in Grades K through 5 will enjoy a week fi lled with
adventure and discovery with themes like Signs of Spring and Where is
the Water? Through hikes, games, crafts, interactive learning and a
whole lot of fun, your child will gain an appreciation for nature and
the outdoor world. Children can sign up for one, two, three, four
or all fi ve days. Snacks are provided, but campers should bring a
bag lunch. Members: $50/day or $225/week; Non-Members: $55/
day or $250/week. Extended care available for an additional fee.

What do Sharon Conglomerate, Euclid
Bluestone, and Berea Sandstone all have in
common? They are rock formations found
around the Cleveland area. We will visit
Hinckley and Euclid Creek Reservations
in search of these rocks and experience
indoor rock climbing at the Cleveland Rock

Eco-Rangers
Age: 11 to 15 years • 9 am to 3 pm
Eco-Rangers is a perfect fit for older campers who are looking for more in-depth adventure
and activity. Campers travel by van to off-site locations as indicated below. Bring a backpack,
change of clothes, water bottle and lunch in a reusable container each day. A packing list will be
provided for the overnight camping experiences.
Naturalist in Training

Do you love being outdoors, learning about
nature, and working with children? Then you
sound like a future Naturalist! This week you
will gain knowledge about the flora and fauna
surrounding the Nature Center and how to
relate that knowledge to the younger campers.
As part of this program you will receive
First Aid and CPR training and certification.
Naturalists in Training will also have the
opportunity to assist with our younger camp
groups, as well as, explore other natural areas
when we go on our field trips. $285 members,
$305 non-members. (includes First Aid/CPR
certification and rock climbing at Ruffing
Montessori)
Climbing to New Heights!
Camp Code: ER4
Monday, July 8 – Friday, July 12
Offsite & camping: Thursday & Friday
Do you like to rock climb and hike? If so,
then this is the camp for you. Not only will
we spend time hiking in the Doan Brook
Gorge and practice our bouldering skills, but
part of our adventures will take us climbing
indoor at the Cleveland Rock Gym and
outdoors within the Hinckley Reservation
(led by the Cleveland Rock Gym). Learn
the basics of tent camping including setting
up a tent, cooking on a dual burner camp
stove and building a campfire, all within the
guidelines set by the National Parks. We’ll
camp at Willow Lake Park campground close
to Hinckley Reservation on Thursday night.
Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch
are provided. $360 members $380, nonmembers
(includes climbing fees and gear
rental).
Hocking Hills Adventure
Camp Code: ER6
Monday, July 22 – Friday, July 26
Offsite & camping: Thursday & Friday
(campers return at 8 pm, Friday)
This week will be an adventure to remember
as we explore the amazing Hocking Hills
area in Southeastern Ohio. On Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday we will prepare
for our trip and work on team building
activities. Thursday we will travel and set up
camp for one night at Hocking Hills State
Park in Logan, Ohio. Campers will learn (or
reinforce) the basics of tent camping including
setting up a tent, cooking on a dual burner
camp stove and building a campfire, all within
the guidelines set by the National Parks.
During our two-day stay we will discover
the wondrous caves, waterfalls, and rock
formations throughout Hocking Hills and
will get a bird’s eye view of it all as we go on a
zipline adventure with Hocking Hills Canopy
Tours. Thursday dinner through Friday
dinner are provided. $400 members, $420
non-members (includes zipline canopy tour).

Overnight Camps
• NCSL trip leaders are First Aid & CPR
certified.
• NCSL provides tents, cooking gear and all
food.
• Equipment, such as sleeping bags and
backpacks, are provided by the camper.
• Sleeping bags, ground pads and backpacks
are available to rent for a nominal fee on a
first-come, first-served basis.

Monday, August 19 – Wednesday,
August 21
Have you ever wanted to experience a family
camping trip, but weren’t sure how to set
up a tent, cook on a camp stove, or build
a campfire? Then join the Environmental
Educators from the Nature Center for two
nights of family camping fun at Presque
Isle in Erie, PA. We will provide you with
a packing list of what to bring as well as an
itinerary for each day. Once we set up camp,
families will have the opportunity to explore
the campgrounds and surrounding area on
their own or participate in guided hikes and
activities with NCSL staff before we all meet
back at the camp site to prepare for dinner
and evening activities each night.

General Information
Financial Aid
Financial aid packages are available. Need-based financial aid covers 25-75% of the cost of one week
of camp. Visit www.shakerlakes.org or call (216) 321-5935 for more information and application
materials. Applications are due April 1, 2013. Award recipients will be notified in early May.
Policies And Frequently Asked Questions
• Full payment is due at time of registration. Member registration begins Monday, January 14, 2013.
Non-member registration begins Monday, January 28, 2013.
• Space is limited, please register early. Each camp typically has a maximum of 12 campers per
session. Eco-Rangers and BIG/little have a maximum of 10 campers per session.
• Registered campers receive a confirmation letter and medical form via mail and/or email before
camp starts. Medical form must be completed before or on the first day of camp. Forms are also
available on-line.
• Early-Bird Discount — Register before March 1, 2013 to receive $5 off per week of camp.
• Sibling Discount — $5 off for each additional child registered at the same time.
• Cancellation Policy —Cancellations made before June 1, 2013 will be refunded (minus a $50
processing fee per week). Camp fee may be forfeited if cancellation is not made by June 1, 2013.
The Nature Center reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment is low, in which case you will
receive a full refund. Camp cancellations are determined two weeks before the start date of each
individual camp week.
• Switching sessions will incur a $25 change fee.
• To ensure a safe camp environment, the classroom entrance remains locked. Doors open five
minutes before camp begins and ends.
• The Nature Center reserves the right to refuse or discontinue an individual’s participation if his or
her welfare or the welfare of others is in jeopardy.
• Each camp has one naturalist and at least one teen volunteer. To receive more information about
volunteering, contact Jessica Brand, Volunteer Coordinator at (216) 321-5935, ext 237.
• All campers receive one T-shirt and a camp photo. Please select desired shirt size when registering
your child.
• Field trip locations are subject to change.
• Full-day campers must bring a reusable water bottle, lunch in a reusable container and backpack as
access to trash cans and drinking fountains are limited during hikes.
• Membership – if you are not already a member of the Nature Center, please consider joining. The
member discount for three camp sessions nearly pays for a full-year family membership. To learn
