FBCOs, mentors and o<strong>the</strong>rs with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> community, provide <strong>in</strong>tensive supervi sion of <strong>the</strong> ex-offenders.<br />
Six sites were awarded Anti-Gang Ini tiative grants dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fall of 2006: Cleveland, Ohio; Dallas/<br />
Ft. Worth, Texas; East Los Angeles, California; Milwaukee, Wiscons<strong>in</strong>; Tampa, Florida; and <strong>the</strong> “222<br />
Corridor” between Lancaster and Easton, Pennsylvania. Four more cities - Indianapolis, Oklahoma<br />
City, Rochester, and Raleigh-Durham- were funded <strong>in</strong> 2007. Each site is us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> fund<strong>in</strong>g to target 100<br />
gang members who have a history of violence and pose a risk to <strong>the</strong>ir communities. Participants must be<br />
enrolled with<strong>in</strong> six months of release from <strong>in</strong>carceration.<br />
Services provided through <strong>the</strong> pro gram <strong>in</strong>clude mentor<strong>in</strong>g, risk/needs assessment, treatment services (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />
substance abuse, mental health, and anger management-cognitive re structur<strong>in</strong>g), motivational<br />
<strong>in</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g, socialization skill development, domestic violence rehabilitation, job skills development,<br />
educa tion, employment, hous<strong>in</strong>g, language skills, and child care resources.<br />
Domestic Violence Prevention<br />
<strong>The</strong> DOJ Office on Violence Aga<strong>in</strong>st Women (OVW) sponsored <strong>the</strong> Rural Domestic Violence and Child<br />
Victimization Grant Program to reduce domestic violence and <strong>in</strong>crease services for victims <strong>in</strong> rural<br />
areas. This pilot provided funds to nonprofits <strong>in</strong> Idaho, Wyom<strong>in</strong>g, and Montana who, <strong>in</strong> turn, acted<br />
as <strong>in</strong>termediaries between OVW and small community-and faith-based programs nationwide. <strong>The</strong>y<br />
located potential grantees <strong>in</strong> underserved rural areas, oversaw a national grant competition, dissem<strong>in</strong>ated<br />
grant awards and provided technical assistance to sub-awardees <strong>in</strong> rural communities throughout <strong>the</strong><br />
United States. <strong>The</strong> goal of <strong>the</strong> project was to build capacity <strong>in</strong> small grassroots organizations provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />
social services to victims of domestic violence <strong>in</strong> isolated communities. One of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>termediary grantees,<br />
Faith and Community Technical Support, or FACTS, provided fund<strong>in</strong>g and ongo<strong>in</strong>g technical assistance<br />
to 39 such programs.<br />
Successful programs <strong>in</strong>cluded:<br />
• Iva's Place Inc., Lenoir City, Tenn., serv<strong>in</strong>g Loudon and Monroe counties <strong>in</strong> lower east Tennessee<br />
• <strong>The</strong> Family Peace Project, Henderson County, Texas<br />
• Southwest Arkansas Domestic Violence Center, De Queen, Ark., serv<strong>in</strong>g six counties <strong>in</strong> Southwest<br />
