C.O. -H- -As Christmas Day is a. holy day as well<br />

as an universal puhlic holiday, and as, ll1oreOVf>r, t he<br />

pressure <strong>of</strong> police duty on Christmas Eve is exeeptional1y<br />

severe, Officers ill Chrt.rge <strong>of</strong> Districts a.re<br />

directed to arrange for the release from duty during<br />

that dav <strong>of</strong> all Members <strong>of</strong> the Force under their<br />

comma~d, except the few whose services are indispensahle<br />

to the maiutenance <strong>of</strong> order, etc. It is<br />

desirable tha.t as many <strong>of</strong> the iJolice as pra,ctica,ble<br />

should ha,e an opportunity <strong>of</strong> participating in the<br />

general festivities. Arrangements must <strong>of</strong> course be<br />

made to have a.n ample number <strong>of</strong> polil.;e on duty in<br />

the evening and during tbe ni ght, when the demands<br />

upon them are likely to be heavy.<br />

Those members <strong>of</strong> the F orce who ~Lre required to<br />

do duty on Christmas Day should. in their turn, be<br />

released on New Year's Day.<br />
