2. Please provide a description <strong>of</strong> your background and qualifications, including relevant<br />

educational and employment history, past work with <strong>SMFM</strong>, and any other relevant<br />

experiences.<br />

Dr. Catalin S. Buhimschi received his M.D. degree in 1990 from The University <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila,” Bucharest,<br />

Romania. After a postdoctoral fellowship in Basic Reproductive Sciences at the University <strong>of</strong> Texas, Dr. Buhimschi entered the<br />

residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University <strong>of</strong> Maryland School <strong>of</strong> Medicine where he graduated in 2001. This<br />

was followed by completion <strong>of</strong> a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Yale University School <strong>of</strong> Medicine. In 2004 he joined the<br />

Yale faculty in the Department <strong>of</strong> Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences where currently he is an Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor.<br />

Dr. Buhimschi also serves as Director <strong>of</strong> the Maternal-Fetal-Medicine Fellowship and Director <strong>of</strong> the Perinatal Research Program.<br />

For almost 2 decades, Dr. Buhimschi has committed his career to translational research focused on pregnancy complications. He is<br />

first or senior author on over 100 original research publications in both basic science and clinical research. In addition, he authored<br />

numerous review articles and book chapters. He is Co-Editor <strong>of</strong> the “Drugs <strong>for</strong> Pregnant and Lactating Women” textbook. Dr.<br />

Buhimschi has attended the Annual Meetings <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> Maternal Fetal Medicine (<strong>SMFM</strong>) and had presentations every year<br />

since 1994. He has authored and co-authored over 200 abstracts and received many awards from the <strong>Society</strong>. He is also the<br />

recipient <strong>of</strong> the “March <strong>of</strong> Dimes Best Research in Prematurity” award presented at the <strong>SMFM</strong> annual meeting 2006. Currently, Dr.<br />

Buhimschi serves as Associate Editor <strong>of</strong> the American Journal <strong>of</strong> Perinatology, and on the Editorial <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> several other subspecialty<br />

journals. In 2009, Dr. Buhimschi was elected Council Member <strong>of</strong> the Perinatal Research <strong>Society</strong>. Dr. Buhimschi is member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the NIH/CSR SBIR study section, and served as a grant reviewer <strong>for</strong> the March <strong>of</strong> Dimes Foundation, several Governmental<br />

agencies, and private foundations. He has received extramural funds from the NIH/NICHD as principal investigator on several<br />

research grants. The most recent R01 grant was awarded in 2010 and Dr. Buhimschi is principal investigator. The purpose <strong>of</strong> the<br />

grant is to pursue research in the field <strong>of</strong> fetal injury and antenatal damage related to prematurity. In addition, Dr. Buhimschi is co-
