Please provide a description of your background and qualifications, including relevant educational and employment history, past work with SMFM, and any other relevant experiences. I completed my MFM fellowship at the University of Mississippi in 1994 and took circuitous route back to academic medicine, after being in private practice for 12 years. At Eastern Virginia Medical School, I am currently the director of MFM division and was recently approved by ABOG to start a MFM Fellowship, the only one in Virginia. 3. Please list all committees you have been involved with at SMFM. Have you led any initiatives or special projects for the committee, or served in any other leadership role? Currently, I am on the SMFM Publications committee, being chaired by Dr Vincenzo Berghella. For a year I was on Literature Alert Series committee, working with Dr Thomas Garite on identifying publications of special interest to MFM. 4. What other service have you given to SMFM (for example, as a course speaker, Scientific Forum/Special Focus Group organization)? Last year in San Francisco, I chaired a course with Dr Baha Sibai, titled “Debate on Controversies in Obstetric Management”. The
CME had over 400 attendees, and the transcript of the debate is being published by Am J Obstet Gynecol. While in private practice, I had the foresight to nominate Dr Vincenzo Berghella and Dr William Grobman to the SMFM Board, both of whom were selected in the first try! I was a co-author of the very first practice bulletin jointly written with SMFM and ACOG, titled “Multiple Gestation: Complicated Twin, Triplet, and High-Order Multifetal Pregnancy”. 5. Please write a brief statement indicating your interest in serving, any special qualifications you have for the SMFM Board, and the ways in which you will enhance the diversity of the Board. Having straddled academic and private settings, my interest lies in quantifying and enhancing adoption of evidence-based practice in obstetrics. My special qualification is derived from the range of my work experience, from a level I hospital during Desert Storm, where the nearest MFM was over 6,000 miles away in Virginia, to being the director of a MFM fellowship at a tertiary center. The diversity I will bring is my interest in obstetrics in India, the country with the most childbirth (25.7 million), and more neonatal (1,105,100) and maternal (63,000 in 2008) deaths then any other country. 6.
