This article discusses the technique and possible complications when using a volar approach for a PIP joint arthroplasty. The
authors believe a volar approach has many advantages over using a dorsal approach for a PIP joint arthroplasty, as supported in
a study they conducted which is pending publication. Their results were as good or better than the published results for PIP
arthroplasty through a dorsal approach.
