PANEL DISCUSSION: Mary Jane Clark, IIRA-WIU and Eagleview Board of Directors, and Lynette Cale from
the McDonough County Health Department spoke with the group about the closure of Eagleview Health Services in
Macomb. Dental service will close April 11 th and medical service will discontinue June 30 th . The two discussed the
factors leading to the closure of the Macomb site, and plans for the future.
Cuts to adult Medicaid benefits and the absence of FQHC grant funds left the Macomb facility unable to financially
support a successful program. Although there is optimism that medical services will be absorbed by MDH, the loss
of oral care is significant for our community.
Each year, Eagleview had 5000 dental encounters, the max capacity for the program. In order to bridge the gap that
will be lost once dental services are closed, the McDonough County Health Department is working to develop a plan
to provide dental services in McDonough County. Health departments in neighboring counties already provide
dental care so this won’t be a huge shift in service. However, there is a lot of variability in what it will cost the
Health Department to take on this task.
Eagelview is financially responsible for the lease of it’s building for the next 5 years, unless they can sub-let. The
Health Department discussed an interest in utilizing that space for dental but it is far too soon to make any plans.
There are several factors, and financial hurdles, that have to be addressed before any specific plans can develop.
Dental services are known to be the most expensive to open, so space is but one variable in this equation.
Beck, Treasurer.
