2. Guidelines for nominations<br />
Who can make a nomination?<br />
Everyone is welcome to make a nomination, especially member organisations or<br />
other organisations and individuals who actively support <strong>SOLIDAR</strong>'s work.<br />
Who can be nominated?<br />
Individuals and organisations whose outstanding work is fuelled by vision and tireless<br />
commitment and whose achievements have contributed greatly to the struggle for more social<br />
justice and equality, and who are in line or linked with the values shared within the <strong>SOLIDAR</strong><br />
network.<br />
Preference will be given to individuals or organisations working at local or national level in<br />
one or more of the following fields:<br />
- Campaigning for social justice, democracy and human rights. This could include<br />
campaigns for trade union rights, free speech, or freedom for the media. It could also<br />
include campaigns for improved social conditions.<br />
- Establishing hands-on projects to improve the conditions of minorities or<br />
disadvantaged people. This could include: projects which promote peace and<br />
reconciliation in troubled areas; projects which focus on training, employment, cultural<br />
activities, housing or the provision of social services; projects which promote improved<br />
access to information.<br />
Decisions will be made based on the level of synergy that the individual or organisation’s<br />
work has with <strong>SOLIDAR</strong>’s work. You can see our current activities on our website<br />
(www.solidar.org).<br />
What are the categories for nominations?<br />
In <strong>2013</strong>, there are two awards categories open for nominations:<br />
1) Social Justice in Europe: open for an organisation or individual working within the 27<br />
EU Member States;<br />
2) International Solidarity – open for an organisation or individual working in any<br />
country outside the European Union.<br />
3) A third award will be decided within the Jury on Lifetime Achievements.<br />
Who decides on the winners?<br />
The winners are selected by a jury comprising of Members of the European Parliament and<br />
others who share a long history of involvement with <strong>SOLIDAR</strong>’s work and identify with its<br />
values.<br />
When are the awards presented?<br />
The <strong>Awards</strong> will be presented at an awards ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels<br />
in <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
