SEPTEMBER<br />
"Legion", a modern miracle play, was performed at St. John's<br />
Church.<br />
The Prefects' Jumble Sale raised £51 9s. Od. towards the cost<br />
of producing "<strong>Spectrum</strong>".<br />
A party from Sixth Form went to see "The Jew of Malta" at<br />
the Aldwych theatre.<br />
OCTOBER<br />
There were three one-day excursions for the Geographers,<br />
Zoologists and Botanists, to the North Downs, the Weald near<br />
Maidstone and the South Coast.<br />
The S.C.M. Conference at Wood Green Grammar <strong>School</strong> was<br />
attended by 50 pupils of this school.<br />
On the 23rd, The Inter-House Musical Competition was won<br />
by Chace House.<br />
Professor Wright addressed the Sixth Form on University<br />
Entrance.<br />
NOVEMBER<br />
A party from VIA went to a lecture on "Acoustical Science in<br />
Ancient Greece" organised by the London Branch of the Classical<br />
Association.<br />
Dancers and tumblers from "The Merry Wives of Windsor"<br />
performed before Her Majesty the Queen at the 75th Birthday of<br />
The <strong>County</strong> Council's Association at <strong>County</strong> Hall.<br />
A Party of 27 from V1B attended a Brains Trust organised by<br />
the Hansard Society.<br />
A party from Sixth Form attended the annual Ford Lecture at<br />
the Royal Albert Hall to hear Sir Hartley Shawcross speak on<br />
'Polities'.<br />
A party of 80 from Forms V and VI attended a performance of<br />
"Electra" and "The Trojan Women" at the Theatre Royal, Stratford<br />
East.<br />
DECEMBER<br />
Speech Days were held with Sir Edward Boyle, M,P,, and<br />
Sir Charles Darlington as the guest speakers.<br />
A party of 12 from VIB saw "Edward II" at the Mount View<br />
Theatre.<br />
15 members of the Sixth Form heard a lecture entitled "This is<br />
Glass" at the Science Museum.<br />
Annual Dinner of the Magazine Committee and visit to the<br />
Old Vic to see the National Theatre's production of "Royal Hunt<br />
of the Sun."<br />
In the Inter-House Dramatic Competition, Trent House won<br />
the "Absolute" cup the Merry Wives pennant was won by I. P.<br />
Johnson.<br />
A party of 10 from VIB/Arts saw Marlowe's "Tambourlaine" at<br />
The Tower Theatre, Islington.<br />
Carol Singers from Form VI collected £46 for the National<br />
Fund for Research into Poliomyelitis.<br />
Members from the Middle school sang carols at various Old<br />
People's Homes and in addition collected £2 for Poliomyelitis<br />
Research.<br />
A targe group from Form VI carried out a survey on Old People<br />
living in New <strong>Southgate</strong>. This was organised by Alderman Mrs. Ruth<br />
Winston Fox, Chairman of Governors.<br />
Twenty-nine senior boys and girls distributed Oxfam leaflets at<br />
various stations on the Piccadilly line.<br />
JANUARY<br />
A parly of twelve from VIB/Arts saw Marlowe's "Jew of Malta"<br />
at the Aldwych.<br />
The cast of the "Merry Wives" saw The Royal Shakespeare<br />
Company's production of the play at the Aldwych.<br />
Mr. D. Pring, a senior Clerk of the House of Commons, spoke<br />
to the Sixth Form on "Parliamentary Procedure".<br />
A party of twenty from Form VI attended a concert at The<br />
Regal, Edmonton.<br />
A party of twenty-four from VIA/B Arts saw the French film<br />
"Tartuffe".<br />
FEBRUARY<br />
Six members of Form VI attended a concert at the Roya<br />
College of Music.<br />
A group from VIA/Arts saw the film "Murder in the Cathedral"<br />
at Prince Charles Theatre, Leicester Square.<br />
MARCH<br />
Excerpts from the "Bacchae" were performed before a conference<br />
of Classics Teachers held at Woodberry Down <strong>School</strong> and were<br />
very well received.<br />
The same excerpts were entered for the <strong>Southgate</strong> Drama<br />
Festival and these won the trophy for the most promising Youth<br />
Group.<br />
The Inter-House Cross Country Races were held.<br />
The use of English Exam was taken by A" level candidates.<br />
The presentation of the "Bacchae" and "Trial by Jury".<br />
APRIL<br />
"Neighbours" Conference. This was organised by the <strong>Southgate</strong><br />
Council of Christians and Jews.<br />
The film "Henry V" shown to Fifth Forms.<br />
Dramatic Society's Dinner.<br />
MAY<br />
Mr. Denny, Chief Education Officer of Enfield, gave a talk to<br />
the Sixth Forms on the "Future of Education in Enfield".<br />
The film "Importance of Being Ernest" was shown to the senior<br />
school.<br />
Sports Day was held on the 31st.<br />
JUNE<br />
Parents Day was held on the 1st.<br />
The meeting of parents of New Entrants was held on the 14th.<br />
JULY<br />
Sixth Form Outing to the Houses of Parliament and to the<br />
Law Courts. Third Form Outing to the Royal Academy and to the<br />
Design Centre. Leavers' Service at St. Paul's Cathedral.<br />
