A G.C.E. Which includes English Language, Mathematics and<br />

Physics at ' O' level, and at least one subject at<br />

'A' level?<br />

A practical interest in radio, television, tape recording,<br />

photography, stage lighting or sound effects, and<br />

a desire to learn more about these subjects?<br />

The wish to build a Career on these foundations, involving<br />

practical work with technical equipment, helping<br />

to put radio and television programmes on the air?<br />

There are openings in the Engineering Division of the BBC<br />

for Technical Operators and Technical Assistants. Technical<br />

Operators are responsible for the operation of equipment used in<br />

producing Sound and Television Programmes. Technical Assistants<br />

(whose 'A' level subject must be Physics or Mathematics) are<br />

concerned with testing, adjusting, setting-up, and maintaining<br />

the equipment. Full training is given in both cases.<br />

If you expect to obtain 'A' level passes in Physics and<br />

Mathematics, you may be considered for a Technical Traineeship,<br />

a number of which are awarded each year. They are for three<br />

years, leading to the Higher National Diploma in Electrical<br />

Engineering.<br />

The opportunities mentioned above apply to boys, but there<br />

are also opportunities for girls to train as Technical Operators<br />

in Sound Broadcasting.<br />
