Alma B<strong>and</strong>a, BA<br />
Ms. B<strong>and</strong>a is a leading community advocate for the<br />
Eastside <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> Program. She has been<br />
advocating for survivors of abuse <strong>and</strong> providing<br />
training for over twenty years. She is a “healer” in<br />
her tribal community. Her expertise in the field of<br />
domestic violence provides us with a rich resource<br />
for this training.<br />
John Plummer, PhD<br />
Dr. Plummer received a Masters in Marriage <strong>and</strong><br />
Family Therapy, as well as in Divinity Education.<br />
Since 2003 he has been a private practitioner<br />
working with children, youth, adults, couples, <strong>and</strong><br />
families. Since 1998 he has worked as a domestic<br />
violence counselor <strong>and</strong> has worked at both Family<br />
Services <strong>and</strong> <strong>Seattle</strong> Mental Health. Dr. Plummer's<br />
dissertation is Executive Functioning <strong>and</strong> Romantic<br />
Adult Attachment in Intimate Partner <strong>Violence</strong><br />
<strong>Perpetrator</strong>s.<br />
Mario Paredes, MNPL<br />
Mr. Paredes is bilingual, bicultural, <strong>and</strong> an<br />
approved supervisor for domestic violence<br />
counselors. He is the Executive Director of<br />
Consejo. He has more than 15 years’ experience<br />
working with domestic violence victims <strong>and</strong><br />
offenders. Mr. Paredes has also been trained as a<br />
victim Sexual Assault Provider. Mr. Paredes is<br />
known <strong>and</strong> highly respected in the DV community<br />
<strong>and</strong> has assisted other agencies in their development<br />
<strong>and</strong> implementation of domestic violence services,<br />
including Asian Counseling <strong>and</strong> Referral services,<br />
Nueva Comunidad, Sea Mar Mental Health, <strong>and</strong> Ina<br />
Maka Family Intervention Program.<br />

Margaret Alquist, Master Degree in Public<br />
Administration/Criminal Justice<br />
Ms. Alquist has been a Community Corrections<br />
Officer for Washington State since 1996 supervising<br />
a caseload of high risk felons. Between 1989 <strong>and</strong><br />
1991, she was a State Certified Social Worker for the<br />
State of Hawaii. Ms. Alquist has been an advocate<br />
volunteer for survivors of abuse since 2005. She is<br />
actively involved with the Department of Corrections<br />
<strong>Victim</strong> Committee, Co-chairs the Eastside <strong>Domestic</strong><br />
<strong>Violence</strong> Intervention Committee.<br />
David V<strong>and</strong>egrift, MSW, LICSW<br />
Mr. V<strong>and</strong>egrift has been in the domestic violence<br />
field for over 20 years. He maintains his private<br />
practice in which he offers a state certified domestic<br />
violence perpetrator treatment program. His<br />
specialties are problem youth <strong>and</strong> high conflict<br />
families. He works closely with area school districts<br />
<strong>and</strong> is active with local <strong>and</strong> state domestic violence<br />
presentations. Mr. V<strong>and</strong>egrift is the current Cochairperson<br />
for Eastside <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong><br />
Intervention Committee <strong>and</strong> consults for the Men's<br />
Checkup Project headed by the University of<br />
Washington. He serves as the clinical director of<br />
Coastal Treatment Services, Inc. which offers state<br />
certified treatment in chemical dependency, mental<br />
health, domestic violence, <strong>and</strong> problem gambling.<br />
Honors include being appointed to represent the King<br />
County DV perpetrator treatment agencies to the<br />
Child Welfare/<strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> Summit task<br />
force.<br />
Tonya Dotson, BA Criminal<br />
Justice/Psychology<br />
Ms. Dotson has been working in the field of domestic<br />
violence for the past two years, serving the <strong>Domestic</strong><br />
<strong>Violence</strong> Unit at <strong>Seattle</strong> Municipal Court. She is the<br />
lead officer for the Unit <strong>and</strong> works closely with the<br />
<strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> Court.<br />

Definitions <strong>and</strong> dynamics of <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong>, Myths, Guiding Principles, Systems, <strong>and</strong><br />
Characteristics, Advocacy, Community Response, <strong>and</strong> the impact domestic violence has on all<br />
aspects of life.<br />
The course explores the fundamental concepts <strong>and</strong> special interest topics in the field of<br />
domestic violence. It is expected that the participants will develop applicable skills by using<br />
critical thinking, analysis, <strong>and</strong> integrating the course material into their personal <strong>and</strong><br />
professional values, beliefs, <strong>and</strong> ethics.<br />

Social Workers (NASW) for Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Marriage <strong>and</strong> Family Therapists, <strong>and</strong><br />
Licensed Mental Health Counselors. Our Provider number is 1975-220. Chemical Dependency<br />
Professionals, Certified <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> Counselors, <strong>and</strong> other professionals in the Criminal<br />
Justice System will be approved for 64 continuing education clock hours. Participants<br />
