Dear Friends,
We would like to welcome you all to this 10th Annual Staff Conference, hosted by Junior Achievement Greece in
the fascinating city of Athens. Thank you so much Maria and team! Please let me underline that we’re moving into
our tenth year as JA-YE Europe. We can look back on a decade of progress, growth, innovation and partnership.
2011 itself has been a year full of new opportunities but at the same time a lot of uncertainty and change. There’s
probably never been a better time for JA-YE—we’re a great and cost-effective response to the crises in the
economy and in education. But it’s going to take all the ingenuity we can muster in order to make the most of
our resources and continue to reach more young people. Slowing down now, when we are so needed, is just not
an option!
It is appropriate that this year’s conference is moving us deeper into how we can take better advantage of
technology and how we can better engage with private sector partners. It’s fantastic that our board members
and alumni are present in Athens and rolling up their sleeves with us. Our sustainability depends on it!
Member organizations continue to push on initiatives with an international dimension. Enterprise without
Borders is growing and growing with more than 25000 students having participated so far; the global Social
Innovation Relay is gathering pace fast and including China, India, Brazil, South Africa; the Global Enterprise
Project has reached 11 European countries now and the Social Enterprise Programme looks like a hot proposition
just starting this year.
We’re launching a new campaign to celebrate our ten years called “JA Changed My Life” which will tell all the very
personal stories of transformation that have touched so many young people, volunteers, teachers, board members
and staff. Along with that, we hope to underline the message with new research on impact and entrepreneurial
competences.
30 countries are participating here. You represent an outstanding group of talented professionals. You can expect
a strong line-up of workshops and networking opportunities. This is where we can really understand the value
of being part of such a network—it’s all about how well we use our connections and learn from each other’s
experiences. If you’re joining us for the first time, you are more than welcome. We hope this event will be an
experience you will want to repeat. Have fun!
