PUTNAM VILLAGER
PUTNAM — The Theatre of Northeastern
Connecticut at the Bradley Playhouse will
showcase an evening of original theatre
when it proudly presents the 2010 Playwright
Festival.
Performances are Friday, Sept. 10 and
Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. All seats are $10.
This production is not part of the regular
Bradley season, so season and flex passes
cannot be used.
According to Scott Guerin, executive director
of the Festival, the Blockbuster
Playwright Festival started in 2006, as a way
to bring new, unpublished scripts to the stage
to showcase “local” talent. In 2010, we
received almost 50 scripts from all over the
United States. While the competition is open
to any type of play — drama, comedy, mystery,
etc., the plays submitted were predominantly
comedies, which is reflected in our
Bradley to host Playwright Festival
presentation.
This evening of light-hearted entertainment
consists of six one act plays, each written
by a different playwright and directed by
local directors: “Tricks of the Trade” by
Robert C. Latino (Brookfield, Mass.), “Jump”
by George J. Bryjak (Bloomingdale, N.Y.),
“Johnny & Linda” by Paul Bowman (New
Albany, Ind.), “Marsha’s Job Interview” by
Nicole Panteleakos (Plainfield), “Pulling the
Plug” by Karen Hartline (Oakland, Calif.)
and “Mrs. Invisible” by Robert L. Hecker
(Sherman Oaks, Calif.). The casts include
familiar Bradley performers, as well as a few
new faces. Some actors appear in more than
one play. Robert Latino, the author of “Tricks
Indian Summer
Dine under our tent with live music
of the Trade,” is acting in three of the plays,
but not the one he wrote.
It’s a fun change of pace to be able to spend
an evening at the theatre and see six completely
different shows. Most will make you
laugh, some will make you think — but all
will entertain and give you a hint at the talent
that is out there waiting to be discovered.
The Bradley Playhouse is located at 30
Front Street (Route 44) in Putnam. Tickets
are available at Wonderland Books, 120 Main
