Mary Katrantzou<br />

British Fashion designer Mary Katrantzou was born in Athens to an interior<br />

designer mother and a father trained in textile design. She continued the family<br />

legacy by studying Textile design at Central St Martins in London whilst<br />

working alongside Sophia Kokosalaki for two seasons. In 2008 she graduated<br />

with an MA distinction in Womenswear and her initial ready-to-wear collection<br />

debuted at London Fashion Week in Spring / Summer 2009 with a collection of<br />

only nine dresses that picked up 15 prestigious stockists including Browns,<br />

Joyce and Colette.<br />

Inspired by perfume bottles, artisan blown glass and eighteenth century society<br />

paintings, Katrantzou’s fashion collections revolve around icons of luxury, physical objects from art<br />

and design that women are not be able to wear. Her Atelier <strong>Swarovski</strong> accessories for Autumn<br />

Winter <strong>2011</strong> complement her imaginative design aesthetic with a collection of wearable statement<br />

jewellery pieces. Necklaces and pendants feature iconic talisman shapes made with crystal mesh,<br />

scattered with pendants and strung on luxurious cord fastenings. Earrings, rings and bangles are<br />

crowned with chromatic clusters of crystal beads, from fuchsia to emerald, amethyst and sapphire<br />

interspersed with silver shade and aurora borealis pendants. These crystal combinations<br />

complement the opaque white and blue enamelled bracelets to create a rich, vibrant collection<br />

through considered use of colour and texture.<br />

“"I wanted to do something with my Atelier <strong>Swarovski</strong> collection that is refined, light and desirable. I<br />

combined the translucence and brilliance of <strong>Swarovski</strong> crystal pendants with a porcelain finish,<br />

achieved by using enamel. We also designed most pieces with clusters of Aurora Borealis crystals to<br />

give the collection an iridescent feel. I hope the jewellery looks like a prized possession you would<br />

Arik Levy<br />

Designer, technician, artist, photographer and filmmaker; Arik Levy's multidisciplinary<br />

approach to design can be seen in galleries and museums across the<br />

globe. Originally from Israel, he studied Industrial Design in Switzerland and went<br />

on to work in Japan before returning to Europe. He currently works in Paris with his<br />

team of 20 designers and graphic artists that make up his progressive company<br />

‘Ldesign’. Best known for dynamic furniture design, installations and limited edition<br />

pieces, Arik Levy creates a collection for Atelier <strong>Swarovski</strong> Autumn Winter <strong>2011</strong><br />

that adds a new dimension to jewellery design with crystal.<br />

The ‘RockCrater’ collection introduces highly polished metal structures reminiscent<br />

of rocks in the natural world, broken open to expose the crystal within. Grouped organically to form<br />

necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings the differently sized RockCraters encase thousands of tiny<br />

crystal chatons. The encrusted crystal interior of the shapes illuminates the structured form that<br />

surrounds them whilst the beauty of the collection lies in the juxtaposition of material and texture; opaque<br />

smooth metals in gold, silver and gunmetal contrast with the translucent golden shadow, khaki and silver<br />

shade crystals.<br />

“With the RockCraters collection I aim to celebrate a contemporary return to futuristic nature….with a<br />

sculpture-to-wear statement that stems from my artistic body of work and my quest for the new<br />

perfect unreal nature, I give life to my narrative of techno-poetic science…<br />

Just like a mineral discovered in the wild, the sculpted craters expose the beauty of the formation<br />

composed by a man-made micro chaton cut. These crystal formations, in a unique mix of multiple<br />

colours, create depth, reflection and shine. The different sizes of the craters give this sculpture-towear<br />

a variety of configurations. At every movement of the body, light will sparkle within the crater to<br />

create a multitude of colour effects in the crystals, while the super polished rock facets will reflect<br />

Rodrigo Otazu<br />

”Powerful designs for powerful women.” The illustrious jewellery designer Rodrigo<br />

Otazu launched his label ‘Otazu’ in 1991 with luxurious costume jewellery before<br />

going on to work in theatre, film and with musicians. Through his talent, passion<br />

for life and all consuming sense of style, Otazu designs costumes and dresses for<br />

celebrities from Kylie Minogue to Lady Gaga, Lauryn Hill and Britney Spears. His<br />

work encompasses influences from architecture, music, travel, fashion and the<br />

arts resulting in a strong creative vision seen in his Atelier <strong>Swarovski</strong> collection for<br />

Autumn Winter <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

His inspirational designs celebrate innovative use of crystal; by flipping the<br />

crystals upside down he exposes a unique crystal cut that has never been used before. With<br />

necklaces that reference tribal jewellery shapes, to cuffs, earrings and pyramid pendants, Xillion cut<br />

crystal squares in tones of silver shade and golden shadow are aligned in cubes and linear<br />

formations to create a collectible range of contemporary accessories for Atelier <strong>Swarovski</strong>.<br />

“Having worked with <strong>Swarovski</strong> crystal for the last 15 years my first impulse was to do something out<br />

of the box, something distinctive and innovative. I always strive to be different from everyone else.<br />

So I did it ... I turned myself and the stones upside down and, boy oh boy how much fun was it doing<br />

my job again! Music, sparkles, passion and love all come together in my designs to make you feel<br />

Cate Adair<br />

Cate Adair is the Emmy-nominated Costume Designer for the smash hit<br />

series, Desperate Housewives. Based in Los Angeles, Cate completed<br />

formal training in Fashion and Costume Design in her native Britain and has<br />

gone on to achieve industry-wide acclaim for her extensive design work in<br />

feature films, television and theatre. With credits that include Oprah Winfrey’s<br />

critically acclaimed Before Women Had Wings, the hit film I Know What You<br />

Did Last Summer, Beverly Hills Cop III, and Dreamwork’s Win a Date with<br />

Tad Hamilton.<br />

Cate lends her considerable experience in the film world to design Atelier<br />

<strong>Swarovski</strong>’s first ever collection of clutch bags. Destined for the red carpet and encrusted with<br />

<strong>Swarovski</strong> crystal, the bags are available in black satin, silver and gold leather. The bags include<br />

delicate design features from a crystal bracelet which secures the clutch around the wrist, to<br />

<strong>Swarovski</strong> crystal clasps.<br />

“In designing for Atelier <strong>Swarovski</strong>, I was inspired by the universality of the <strong>Swarovski</strong> crystals... the<br />

myriad ways they could be applied with equally stunning effect, an infinite array of colours, textures,<br />

shapes, and sizes that I could use in artistic expressions from geometric patterns to seemingly<br />

random clusters.<br />

In the Evening Clutch Collection there are two diametrically opposed but quite complementary<br />

designs. I’ve tried to capture the cadence and soft glow of a sophisticated evening and the<br />

Lesley Vik Waddell<br />

Lesley Vik Waddell’s extensive design background includes working for<br />

Vivienne Westwood, Donna Karan, Christian Dior and Cartier. Educated in<br />

England and a jewellery design graduate, Vik Waddell produced her premier<br />

jewellery collection which was bought in its entirety by Harrods and Erickson<br />

Beamon. This has since developed into a successful collection selling in<br />

over 40 stores worldwide which runs alongside her couture line of private<br />

commissions in addition to her own label, ‘Vik’. She currently lives in<br />

Switzerland.<br />

Inspired by 1950’s glamour, Lesley Vik Waddell’s Cascade Collection for Atelier<br />

<strong>Swarovski</strong> denotes style and elegance through the imagery and movement of the <strong>Swarovski</strong> crystals. Water<br />

provided Lesley with a wonderful starting point, a key element in both nature and in crystal. She combines<br />

architectural crystals and chandelier components with twisted silk cords. Silver shade crystals are strung<br />

onto a glossy grey cord, in contrast to the black cord that is fringed and knotted with Jet beads. The<br />

necklaces, bracelets, Lariats and rings form a versatile collection of pieces that can be worn in a variety of<br />

ways.<br />

“The collection as suggested in the name was inspired by the beauty and power of water cascading<br />

through nature, carving a path in the most organic way. Beauty is something we humans crave for,<br />

to be inspired by the sublime. I have also always found fairy tales a rich source of inspiration. The<br />

fight between good versus evil. dark and light. The duality of life mixed with magic and endless<br />

possibilities. Opulent rainfalls of brilliant glittering crystals combined with the sensual feeling of silk<br />

cord provide an exciting and luxurious way to step into the glamour of the 1950’s. Created for<br />
