SPU MANILA HRM STUDENTS
WIN IN MANILA FOODS AND BEVERAGES EXPO 2011

St. Paul University Manila Hotel and Restaurant Management students won in the Manila Foods
and Beverages Expo (MAFBEX) 2011, held on 15-19 June 2011 in The World Trade Center,
Pasay City.
Out of 20 HRM and culinary schools in the Philippines, SPU Manila won 3 rd Place in the
Pasta Live Competition and 2 nd Place in the Barista Competition.
MAFBEX, which is organized by DLSU-College of St. Benilde, is an annual competition
participated in by different HRM and culinary schools, colleges, and universities in the
Philippines.

RECENT ACTIVITIES
MOA SIGNING IN MANILA CITY HALL

On 6 June 2011, Hon. Mayor Alfredo Lim called for a meeting with the deans of different
colleges of nursing regarding their affiliation in Justice Jose Abad Santos Hospital. Representing
SPU Manila’s College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Rhoda Reyes attended the event
in the Manila City Hall, together with Mr. Angelo Bunagan, CNAHS Faculty. Also included in the
meeting was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between each school and the said
hospital.

FIRST CNAHS GENERAL FACULTY MEETING FOR AY 2011-2012

In preparation for school year 2011-2012, the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences held
its first general faculty meeting on 7 June 2011. It started with a BEC session, led by Mr. Angelo
Bunagan. The said meeting was presided over by Dr. Rhoda Reyes, the Dean of CNAHS. Some
of the points of discussion in the meeting were student and faculty attendance, policy
reinforcements, dates to remember, and SPU Manila’s centennial celebration.
PREPARATION FOR 2012 PAASCU ACCREDITATION

Dr. Rhoda Reyes, dean of the College of Nursing Allied Health Sciences, together with Mr.
Froiline Tancinco, over-all chairman of the PAASCU 2012 preparations committee, called for a
meeting with CNAHS faculty members on 8 June 2011. Four sub-committees were created to
work on the major areas of evaluation in the accreditation, namely: Faculty, led by Mrs. Jennifer
Joy Olivar; Instruction, led by Mrs. Maridel Juarez; Laboratory, led by Mrs. Rowena Ramos; and
Community, led by Mrs. Marlyn Mumpar and Mr. Arriane Jamison.
METRO MANILA HEALTH RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CONSORTIUM

The Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium. in cooperation with Far
Eastern University Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, organized a research forum on Safe

Motherhood, entitled “Mother’s Health is Family’s Wealth.” It was held at 1:00-4:00 P.M., 10
June 2011 in the Dr. Ricardo L. Alfonso Hall, 5 th Floor, Institute of Medicine, FEU-NRMF, West
Fairview, Quezon City.
Two well founded research studies were presented, namely: “Brominated Flame
Retardants in Human Breast Milk and House Dust: Implications for Human Exposure” by Dr.
Maricar S. Prudente, DLSU Manila; and “Efficacy of Intravaginal Hydrogen Peroxide in the
Management of Bacterial Vaginosis among Premenopausal Non-Pregnant Women seen at the
Outpatient Department of a Tertiary Hospital: A randomized controlled trial,” by Dr. Jennifer T.
Co, FEU-NRMF. Reaction was given by Dr. Genesis C. Rivera, President of the Philippine
Pediatrics Society, after the presentations of the research papers.

(CNAHS) faculty: Ms. Mary Ann Pascual, MAN, RN; Ms. Angel Balite-Sayde, RN; Ms. Jamaica
Saguban, RN; Mr. Bienson Ripotola, RN; and Mr. Dexter Soguillon.
SPU MANILA RESIDENCE HALL HOLDS GENERAL ASSEMBLY SY 2011-2012

On 12 June 2011, at 7:00 P.M, the residence hall of Saint Paul University Manila held its annual
General Assembly for the school year 2011-2012. It was a night filled with inspiration, elegance,
and hope. The program began with a beautiful opening prayer by Ms. Rosanna Joy Susada of
BSN 4.
The warm welcome address was given by Ms.
Jamie Gem Serquina of BSN 4, who is the newly
elected President of the Residence Hall. Next was the
presentation of the officers and room leaders. All
boarders of the Residence Hall then pledged to abide
by its rules and regulations. (See pic.)
Sr. Lilia Thérèse L. Tolentino, SPC, President of
Saint Paul University Manila, shared some words of wisdom with the boarders. She emphasized
to them that being part of the Residence Hall is one of the most life-changing experiences in
one’s life.
Sr. Isabel Narciso, SPC, head of SPU Manila Residence Hall, also
shared some thoughts and thanked the boarders and their guests. (Pic
left) The program then shifted to a lovely performance by the music
students of the Residence Hall. The night ended with everyone singing
“Maria Tu Eres Mi Madre” and a closing prayer led by Regina Pataueg of
BSP 3.
As the General Assembly opened a new year for the dormers, so
does the new look of the Residence Hall. The bedrooms and corridor of
the dormitory have been newly painted in very fine earth tones: the walls
are in soft yellow, the closets are in natural beige, and the doors are in a
sweet, dark chocolate shade of brown. All the bedrooms have been covered with walls to
provide a comfortable milieu for the dormers.
